Installation Muso 2 - does not get past "Transferring settings"

A new Muso 2 out of the box.
I have a Wi-Fi mesh network Deco x 1500, which I have set to 5 GHz only. It has a single SSID.

I am setting up with the Naim app on my Android phone.
Muso flashes purple: then says “No Naim products detected”.
Nevertheless, I now see the Mu-so 0036.d064 on my network ( Wi-Fi, phone), albeit with the message “Internet not available”.

Next, the app continues with asking the password of my network. After providing that password (copied directly from the TP Link Deco app), the Naim app says that the Muso is connected, and continues with “Transferring settings”. That’s where it hangs. Eventually, I get a message saying that no connection can be made.

When I repeat the steps, I can select the Mus-so 0036 directly. After providing the Wi-fi network, the same thing happens: it hangs in “Transferring settings” with the same error message “Failed to Connect. Unable to detect Naim product on y:our Wifi network. Device may have been unable to join. Wifi credentials could have been incorrect”.

How can I install the Naim Muso 2 on my Wi-fi network?

Try this

  1. I have set the mesh wifi to 2.4 GHz. There’s only one network, and it only has a 2.4 GHz signal.
  2. i have no idea how to go through this step, I have WPA2 security, but the wireless mode, channel selection, and channel width are not options that I see anywhere. I don’t have WPA2-PSK available as an option either.
  3. i haven’t scanned for channel optimisation.
  4. I have no idea how to do this, but see step 1: there’s only 2.4 GHz available.
  5. This is where I was before: I can select and connect to the Muso via Wifi, albeit without internet.
  6. I have done a factory reset, and
  7. re-installed the Naim app.
  8. i have connected the Muso with an ethernet cable straight out of the router. Now the indicator light is white. Th.e app says the streamer is connected already. I select “Next” which skips the Wifi setup. Message: “This may take a couple of minutes”. After 15 minutes i am still in that menu and the Muso has switched off. The app does not get through this step. It hangs, Muso switches off, and eventually it just asks you the same question.

In summary, I don’t get a connection to the Muso, neither through Wifi not through an ethernet cable from my router.

I have a Netgear Orbi wifi setup which replaced a prior Asus setup. Muso 2 wouldn’t work with the mesh setup. I wrote to Naim support who gave me a technical response basically saying “it won’t work with mesh”. I then hard wired it to the Orbi end point in my kitchen at which point it has been fine. I’d suggest pushing the reset button on the side of the Muso and trying again with it wired. I had a very similar pattern to you and post reset it worked ok.

Thanks! The solution was to go through the installation on an iPad instead of an Android device.
This time, the app proposed a firmware update, after which the Muso worked.

That sounds like complete tosh to me!!
I can believe that any particular mesh system, particularly a consumer version of it that may or may not be a true, well implemented mesh setup, might be problematic. But I cannot believe that mesh per se is not able to connect to a Muso.

I agree totally, the email was of the mumbo-jumbo variety, but when there wasn’t going to be technical help with it wireless, I just wired it as I already had the Orbi in the kitchen. Everything else in my house is fine with Orbi, including the ND555 and Nova if run wirelessly (I wire them too), just the Muso doesn’t.

Hi Robert, going through the setup steps with Apple instead of Android worked - it made a different step by wanting to install firmware right away. After the installation/reboot, everything worked.

To summarize for other people having this problem:
Muso works with mesh Wifi. I could only install with Apple, which suggested a firmware update including reboot. Android doesn’t do anything. After installation with Apple you can use Android, but only with VPN disabled. I was about to return the product, TBH.

Very interesting! No ipads or iphones here, so could never have tried that. Not really acceptable though.

The VPN was on on the Android and off on the Apple.
So, I think the best thing to do before going into network stuff is to turn the VPN off before trying anything else. If that doesn’t work, then Apple does something that Android doesn’t and you could try to set up with an Apple device. But I suspect the culprit was the VPN.

I suspect you were being a bit optimistic thinking it would work with it on - but that’s easy to say with 20/20 hindsight… :upside_down_face:

I give it some credence. I had the problem with my Orbi and a QB 2. The Orbi treats the 5.0 GHz and 2.4 GHz as a single channel. The QB 2 doesn’t always like that. I had to connect with an Ethernet cable to complete setup. After that it’s happy on wi-fi. .

So maybe the response of @Dan360 is a bit of an overstatement, but there’s a kernel of truth.

This is also interesting - thanks. I never bothered going back to test, because the Naim support team just advised to wire it. Perhaps their understanding Mesh is better now?
