Started this last night and, whilst it’s genuinely wonderful, please tell me the annoying large guy does not continue his high-pitched whining beyond episode 2. By the middle of it he was really grinding my gears to the extent I had to switch off.

If you add a new power supply to your TV you’ll find the high pitched whining mellows down into a smooth Midlands-lilt.
If you add a second PS he turns into Richard Briers.

Just watched the first episode last night. Will probably do one a night.
Looking very promising , though watching the female lead come apart , makes me wonder how Christie, Sayers etc managed to write so many books where Marple, Poirot and Wimsey’s back story were mentioned but not really the centre of the book .
Watched the ABC murders from BBC and could not be bothered with it -simply because of the scriptwriters wanted to add so much
Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms
Notable for a remarkable prosthetic at the start of episode two… If you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I mean.
Each episode around 40 minutes
If you got the 1300 it was either your first car - or you were on the way down.
Reminds me of the days of the identity-kit Ford Escort 1.6XLs beloved of reps with the clothes hangar and suit jacket on the rear seat hook. Ghia if you were an area rep.
The gear lever of my Cortina Mk 3 XL (vinyl roof, no furry dice) came loose in my hand as I was manoeuvering in a multi storey car park, threaded base worn out. No sweat..

I digress…
He does but then you see a side to him that you rather end up liking!
A prosthetic what? Prosthetic’s an adjective, correct word is prosthesis.
I was hoping that would be the case. Onward then.
Thanks,
G
too good.
this is superb.

A recommendation from some friends of ours that has been nominated for an Oscar in the best documentary category. Available in the U.K. via BBC iPlayer in the storyville series, and it’s called “mr nobody against Putin”.
A fascinating self shot film of a young teacher working at a Russian school witnessing the growing influences of militarisation, and the development of propaganda programs during the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
Just watched it and a big thumbs up from me.
Storyville has been on the go for years, and has always been a compelling watch.
A complete mishmash of documentary topics, some of which make you think “what did I just watch”….
Personal favourite of the recent ones was the Ukranian spa.
The one about Jewish wedding nights was also outstanding.
But there are also fantastic docs on music, and interesting “exposé” type docs on Nazis etc.
The one on this week about the child abuse investigators in the US was compelling viewing Iain.
How polite.
I don’t mind a bit of pedantry to be honest, but you may be unaware that the poster had a stroke resulting in word finding difficulties last year. Very easy to be critical, and I know I make all manner of grammatical errors inadvertently which are often apparent immediately after posting!
I’ll second that @Alley_Cat and I’m sure the member knew exactly what Ian was trying to say.
On reflection probably wrong of me to mention health matters anyway, but they are documented on the forum in a separate thread.
I’m also not convinced that the usage was even incorrect as it could be used in many ways in recent years (decades actually)
It really doesn’t matter.
Don’t worry I am very open about what happened , and how it affected my written skills and how I needed specific support in rebuilding my skills.
For more than 20 years I edited scientific texts (books, reports, peer-reviewed papers, etc). It’s not easy to relax standards and let things go, but on this forum I tend to bite my lip and make no comment. As long as the meaning is clear and not obviously erroneous.
It’s an unfortunate americanism that’s crept into our language and is incorrect. Similarly, I see an orthosis being described as an orthotic. As a retired professional in the field, it really irks me, as it does my fellow practitioners.
Metal detectors vs. Detectorists!
