I’m interested in how other legacy Uniti users work around the fact that the lost the radio internet service on their system?
I’m now in the acceptance phase that my legacy Uniti will not connect to iRadio stations anymore. I’ve installed a workaround with an AudioCast M5 streamer. In fact I’m quite happy with it; The sound quality is good, plays my favorite iRadio stations and it can connect to several internet radio services like TuneIn, vTuner and has Spotify/Tidal connect. I also discovered that I can stream my music collection from my iMac mini to the AudioCast with Airplay. This sounds better than the UPnP connection on my Uniti. The disadvantage is that I need additional apps to control my audio system.
I still mourn my loss of iRadio….,
I have a WiiM Pro, connected by coax digital. Bought it to use Tidal and Spotify, but it has Vtuner and many more functions. It has 12 presets for internet radio and other channels.
Happy with it, but too bad that I have to use sn extra app.
Hi, just found out that I can setup my Fritz!box router as a media server to stream mp3 stream of iRadio stations by UPnP to my Uniti. I have to copy/paste the addresses of the various mp3 stream into my router one by one. Upto now it works for all the Radio Paradise channels and several Dutch radio channels. If it’s stable than this is a nice work around. I can operate the Uniti again with just the remote. Will do some testen the coming days and let you know.
Interesting! I also have a Fritzbox. Might turn out to be a good workaround. Will need a manual for that! Do you get the radiostations as presets then?
I had to google to get instructions how to use the fritzbox as a mediaserver for internet radio. Then used the UPnP connection to listen to iRadio.
You don’t get the presets as you were used to but when you select the mediaserver you get a the list of stations that you have made in the Fritzbox.
Hi all, I’m new in this forum and need support for “anti-obsoleting” my trusty NaimUniti (1) with a “2D” streamer board that was mainly used for iRadio, and only sometimes CD, or Spotify via external devices.
As Pr8hube and many others, I expected the 4.9 firmware to resolve the sudden vTuner service disruption. And I was terribly disappointed to find a note for first generations Unitis (old streaming boards) declaring the iRadio - and effectively my Uniti - dead.
The real details in the vTuner “disruption” are currently unknown to me, yet I think the core is that vTuner increased pricing, discontinuing the previous service agreement with Naim. It makes perfect sense that Naim made an inhouse service to replace costly vTuner, BUT that left some of us behind!
Well, vTuner appears to remain living, and other brands (Denon, Marantz, Yamaha) offer subscription based vTuner access at around 8$/year for end users like me/us. To my understanding, the subscription is locked to one particular MAC address - the network hardware address of the “radio player”.
I would really hope Naim to make an agreement with vTuner providing legacy users like myself the option of extending life of my dear Uniti by means of a vTuner subscription at same price as other brands do. This solution would probably work for all legacy products where vTuner worked (firmware 4.8 and older), but this needs confirmation by some of the clever guys at Naim.
Please share your thoughts on rescuing/reviving legacy iRadio Unitis!
This only works for mp3 streams? Found a lot of streaming internet addresses, but only one works and it is an mp3. The other ones say: Format not recognized.
Yes, it only works for mp3 streams. I use it mainly for radio paradise and some local stations. This also works for de Ms. in house.
For more stations and airplay I use the AudioCast streamer.
Regards Gerard
Managed to make that work (with a lot of trial and error). But unfortunately average to poor audio quality for most stations and not very user friendly, because I also use UpnP also for music from my NAS.
And google (or Safari, Firefox,…) for the mp3 streams of your favorite radio stations.
E.d.; radio paradise: https://stream.radioparadise.com/mp3-192
Copy/paste the url in the “add radio stations” section: 3. Click on the “Web Radio” tab. 4. From the drop-down list, select “Other web radio station…” or a preconfigured radio station, if available.
( I hope that I didn’t offend any community rules)
I’ve installed only a few iRadio stations on the Fritz!box router and I use the UPnP for iRadio only. That makes it more user friendly. The quality of the mp3 streams should be at least 192 Kbit/s.
I replaced the AudioCast M5 for a WiiM mini and use the optical out to connect to the Uniti. I use this device to stream my music from my Mac mini with Airplay and for Spotify and for more radio stations available on TuneIn or Vtuner.
I observed that streaming music from my Mac mini to the Uniti by airplay through the WiiM sound better than by using the UPnP route (Asset).

Thanks for sharing Gerard. The challenge is to find the streams.
Found out some sites that help finding them: https://streamurl.link/
I found the sound a little less quality compared to the embedded iRadio.
Hi I’m in the same situation. I bought my UNITI in 2010 (with n-sats and n-sub) Since then, I’ve been using the CD player, the UPnP client, and web radios. Lately, though, I’ve lost access to the radios and I can’t figure out why. We switched from a third-party system (vtuner) that had some issues but worked to a proprietary system that no longer works on older devices. It feels kind of ridiculous. I’m sure a company like Naim will do something to fix this.
I’m just learning of this now. I couldn’t figure out why my internet radio stopped working - no message from Naim despite multiple product registrations. I have three Naim streamers and I guess they’re just bricks now for radio?
What a joke! Am I supposed to read through a 4000 post thread to figure out if any of my streamers can get an upgrade?
I moved away from naim amplification a few years ago - keeping the streamers thinking they’d be supported. I’ll see if I can get this sorted, but won’t be buying Naim again.
Same situation here, I have a first gen Uniti that has served me well for 15 years now, but now iradio has disappeared. Naim confirmed that there is nothing I or they can do due to HW limitations. I was wondering if Naim would launch a “Old Uniti Amnesty” initiative, so that at least we can get something for our old devices against a newer one. Here’s hoping…
