Is there any news about new pre/power amps?

Actually there’s so many Naim amplifiers I came to think what’s the precise number ?

Counting Bolt-down, Chrome Bumper, Olive and Classic range the possible combinations must be quite a lot.

Not all new but with a fresh service, perhaps.

Planning for mid year 2020 products would have started well before covid, they were probably pretty much ready to go when covid hit

So who actually wants new pre/power products? As someone above has said there are plenty out there second hand. Service them and go. There is very little “tech” in a pre/power amp. Unless naim are going class D or G or whatever. DR was the last big thing, and some prefer a non DR amp.
Naim should place their efforts with whatever is the next big thing.

It seems some people have a yearning for new, as in new design, though I don’t think anyone has identified why, other than that they seem to feel something not so new in design is inevitably not the best it can be…

Wondering about the n272 replacement. A certain large dealer has them going for less than half price brand new. Seems odd as they are a current model.

I thought it was discontinued last year: Email from signals: end of NAC-N 272

Roger

I wasn’t aware of that.

I was told it was discontinued early last year.

I wonder when naim last had an order for them? I have assumed these discounted prices are to clear/rotate stock.

I think you might be surprised at the financial pressures on such an organisation, from personal experience won a bid to rationalise the global cloud/data centre estate from just this type of company. Project ended up being shelved due to financial pressures resulting from downturn in global revenues. Some of these globals get to such a size that ERP “upgrades” take 8 years and are money pits.

Think Sony used to shift 1 in 4 TV’s, now I think they are down at 1 in 50 or so.

I know what you are talking about, however my perspective was more regarding the power to create from 0.
Obviously they ( as any company) haves goals. And heads may be cut off, but still they can do more , compared with micro companies.

I suppose it depends how you measure innovation, Sony might be able to fashion a new face plate and roll out a new amp, but what if anything has really changed.

Not slamming Sony here, their most profitable area was in films, this was a supporting their electronics area, now covid has smashed that model (the films part of it).

They are caught in that difficult middle ground, have LG and Samsung eating their traditional lunch and challenges on their other fronts.

Think 2021 will be a year of damage limitation and priorities will be survival for most.

Success is always relative, smaller companies can sometimes respond quicker to market changes and provide genuine innovation that is later copied and refined by the big boys.

I’ll be happy to see Naim consolidate in 2021 and push forward in 2022 with a loyal customer base who value their products, along with all the other specialised smaller firms.

I do think that Naim could however deliver a £5k - 6.5k super integrated , and that’s coming from someone who has a SN3.

UltraNait?

It’s the likes of Sony / Phillips / whatever, that new types of laser lengths are designed, and you go from tapes to cd. And cds to SACD…
It requires companies with the size of city’s ( Sony is an example) to do this. Innovation is this. Not every year occurs. But happens

I didn’t say couldn’t. I’d said not likely. Or not imperative. Better timings to do this

Sacd?

This one seems to be last year’s amp in a new box.

It is the direct replacement to our award winning MC2152 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Amplifier, which was released in celebration of our 70th Anniversary that occurred in 2019. The new MC1502 has identical audio specifications and sound reproduction performance of the heralded MC2152 but in a more customary McIntosh design.

Which there is a place for this sort of stuff, and I keep begging (without any success) for the last 15 years or so to Thomas “Head Honcho” Sillenson (sorry, too lazy to check spelling) founder of Densen to update the DM10 amp. That would make my day as I couldn’t afford one first time round and bought the Beat B100 (which still have to this day). Reckon the UltraNait would be equivalent / same idea.

Sometimes, in fact many times, it’s how a product makes you feel.

Super Audio CD (SACD) is a read-only optical audio disc developed with the aim of providing greater fidelity in the reproduction of digital audio, surpassing the reproduction of the traditional CD. Introduced to the market in 1999, it was developed by Sony and Philips, the same companies that created the CD.

Surely it would be the UberNait.

Beyond Pre and Power.
