I remember when that ‘Water Babies’ came out - 1976 I think. At the time Miles had just gone into his retirement and there was an ominous silence for a year or so. Side 1 is absolutely prime ‘60s Quintet’ material which served as a reminder just how good that group with Hancock and Shorter was. Side 2 with the Holland/Corea lineup was very different but intriguing too and with Tony Williams evolving towards his ‘Lifetime’ style. Corky McCoy’s cover art was a bit of a curate’s egg at the time but I have grown to like it ! Certainly resonated in terms of theme with the 1976 Summer drought.

I wonder how many people spot the picture of Bill Evans on the sleeve?

Found another Oscar Peterson Plays Cole Porter in my loft I have a couple of crates up there that got banished from the living room after I was accused of taking it over.
It’s probably a charity shop buy from back when you could still buy such things for a pound or less. It’s on the EMI sub mfp but sounds no worse for it a beautiful glossy thick card cover, Emitex inner and nice quality original vinyl.
The track listing is different from the one I posted yesterday with maybe two duplicated tracks.
Although sometimes Oscar’s playing can get a bit much for me he was a fantastic piano player capable of creating real beauty.

I have a few of Ella’s recordings on Norman Granz’s Pablo records most notably Fitzgerald & Pass Again with Joe Pass which I’ve posted before and get’s played a lot but this one with Count Basie not so much it does have it’s moments though.
Boring music fact it was recorded at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland which was located inside a casino and was bought by Queen in the 70’s and is now a Queen museum according to Wikipedia.

I have these reissues, best of British jazz…this looks good.

I like the Filmworks series from John. Some of the more tuneful albums from his massive catalogue…

The Best Of Filmworks - 20 Years Of Soundtrack Music is a great selection.

Chet Baker - Peace Enja Records 1982.
Great group of musicians and a rare recording stateside for Chet during this period.
I’ve been after a decent reasonably priced copy of this for a very long time and just bought this on Discogs.

Jimmy Raney & Doug Raney - Stolen Momments - Steeplechase Records

Father and son team up to record some very good music is this a one and only fathe and son Jazz duet?

Chet Baker, Jean Paul & Henry Florens - “rendez-vous” - Bingow Records 1979
This arrived this morning and I’ve managed to played Side 2 so far and My Funny Valentine and Round Midnight are very, very good.
Like Prestige era Miles and especially late on in his career Chet always resists the urge to spiral off into some trumpet gymnastics and plays JUST enough. Though his improvisation is what he is known for it’s his tone and confidence to leave enough space in and amongst his playing that gets me.

I love the photo of Tommy Flanagan on this cover he looks one of the characters from
Guess Who the children’s game that I used to have to play endlessly with my niece and nephew.

Duke Jordan - Two Loves - Steeplechase Records 1974
Duke Jordan - Flight to Denmark - Steeplechase Records 1974
Both these records where recorded during the same two sessions in Nov & Dec 1973 at Sound Track in Copenhagen.
I have to strongly disagree with Miles Davis here because I think Duke is first class, in the autobiography I read it stated that Miles wasn’t keen on D J because he was enthralled with Ahmad Jamal at that time and thought him (DJ) pedestrian in comparison.
