I’ve been rediscovering some of my Kenny Wheeler albums. This one, with Chris Potter, John Taylor and Dave Holland in a drumless quartet setting is just excellent. John Taylor is one of my favourite jazz pianists, who of course worked with Kenny Wheeler a lot.

For the Kenny Fans:
This is a nice tribute from a fellow Canadian Trumpeter, Ingrid Jensen.

This led me to the Jensen Sisters’ album which also has that melodic ethereal Wheeler sound:

Snorre Kirk, Top Dog. Coming out, on Apple Music there is a preview with three tracks.
Love his taste and freshness.

Women’s’ history month.
Women hardly ever get a mention on this thread. There are many excellent musicians lurking.

Robin Aspland ,Alec Dankworth,Tristram Malliot ,obbligatos and solos by
Scott Hamilton.
Think I will light some candles, stoke the fire and see if there is a bottle of Mateus Rose in the house.

Gosh, that’s so sad, I did’t know. Our local arts centre used to run jazz workshops, and on the last day the tutors did a concert. The vocal tutor one year was Tina May and it was a wonderful concert. What a singer.

If you guys liked female voices you should listen to Youn Sun Nah. I attended her show last year at the Elbphilharmonie and I was just speechless. It is unbelievable what she does with her voice. For me she is actually one of the best singers on the planet :ok_hand:

Prompted to listen to this by an article on MZ in the New European. A lovely collaboration with Bill Evans.

I ended up there via the same route.

Bit to much of a show tune styling for my taste.
Dare I say it…. Bill I can take or leave after the first few Riversides.

Absolutely stunning; what a nice album !!
