I note that Ahmed Jamal has died. Made 92 years.

A very approachable, respected and popular pianist.

The you tube videos show him to be a great entertainer.

I know I posted this recently, but I think it was @BertBird pointed out to me once that one sometimes has to persevere ? - great advice I think particularly with jazz. The more I listen to this album the more I feel I get out of it, if that makes sense ?

It’s this time again that I need to warmly recommend an artist in this post. I just published two albums, but he created many more…., and without almost any expectation all good. Give it a try….

Early Curtis collected by Jordi Pujol. As ever with my thanks.
Just not soo hard bop spiced with a little funkeroo.

Still influenced by Dexter at this stage. Frank Butler’s drumming nicely captured. Bit more of the elusive Carmell.

Tippin? Cruising or driving. (In this context) .

If you want to learn more Fresh Sounds catalogue is the place to be at.

Bit poorly again so I will annoy you from the settee.

Lovely to hear Zoot mixin it with the young bloods.
As the engineer seems to have put everybody apart from Danny Richmond in the right hand channel some might not know the difference.
Booker is the more shouty hollerin tenor who might be edging toward Coltrane.
Zoot is Zoot. Slightly more breathy tone and lyrical. I have never noticed any Coltrane-itis in his styling.
The others are all admirable.

Hope you feel better soon.
Music always helps😊

Some superb piano from an old hand

The very first “Standards” trio recording. Excellent ECM recording quality captured nicely on DSD.

A rather forgotten figure these days but a fantastic tenor player.
