Oh yes @IvdZ !!
Great catalogue
@MrDom
Hi
I’m pretty much a fifty fifty collection wise between Vinyl and CD but don’t do any streaming.
Much prefer the Vinyl format but new Vinyl is a bit of a gamble these days.
Regards.
Wynton Marsalis with members of JLCO.
Recently released live concert recording from 2006.
Sacrilege or helping to keep the flame burning?
Either way it’s a lot of fun.
Streaming on Qobuz/Roon.
Enjoy
Dave
Loving listening to this tonight.
New to me and so far I’ve only played side 1 which is a trip.
I’ve spent too much on high end Classical and Jazz vinyl recently , so I decided to ‘economise’ and buy this version of an album I didn’t know. It’s not a gatefold and doesn’t seem to have quite the clarity of a tone poet gatefold type release ( though it sounds very good).
Is there a better, tone poet style version out there?
There is an issue from the Acoustic Sounds series available and it sounds fantastic
LondonJazzCollector pulled this out of his shelves for a listen. It reminded me what a fine record it was.Duke I always think of as Bud Powell lite.
Dizzy a fine, secure, steady horn not prone to visit the stratosphere or engage in endless poorly executed lines. The other three, priceless.
I have no interest in LJC’s vinyl arcanery but his musical comments are always perceptive.
On Qobuz.
If you are of a certain age….old… he has a feature on a Harry South album, sadly not on Qobuz but with some fine pictures from the days of yore.
Another London Jazz Collector prompt - I haven’t played it for years. Good sound which seems to fall away on the later tracks.
Those two Harry South 4CD sets on R&B Records are the bees knees!
Released on August 11 (digital only): Flow by Slowly Rolling Camera, personnel:
- Dave Stapleton - Keyboards
- Josh Arcoleo - Saxophone
- Stuart McCallum - Guitar
- Elliot Bennett - Drums
- Verneri Pohjola - Trumpet
If you look up “build-up” in the Grove dictionary, good chance you’ll find track 5: “Connected”…
Bit more Duke Jordan. Three elderly gentlemen enjoying themselves.
Wilbur Little and Roy Haynes.
Decent sound apart from the engineer failing to capture Roy’s cymbals properly.
Qobuz.
Thank you, just added these to my favorites
Nice! I bought that as a Linn Selekt LP/Jasmine pressing back when dealers were selling those rekords
I second @krautnaimie the Acoustic Sounds Series is recommended.
Although I’m very fortunate to own a copy of the very well regarded Alto Analogue issue, but thats going to cost you a bankers bonus these days I believe
I’ve been enjoying Red Garland - Soul Junction since randomly coming across it browsing Qobuz, I posted it recently.
Now a little bird told me if you like that then you need this…
All Mornin’ Long
From the same session as Soul Junction making for an excellent double bill.
It’s a great album indeed.
Imagine a hi fi shop selling vinyl.
Those were the days.
