I have that both as an SACD and a hi-res download.
what a great album !!!
I have the Sony release that was remastered by Mark Wilder and produced by Steve Berkowitz. Amazing collection! Check out “Potato Head Blues”…incredible!
Beautiful packaging as well.
Looks like I have some reading (and listening) ahead of me. This was written by the Archivist for the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
Thanks for this. Lots of good info there. ![]()
Just noticed the links to the track samples no longer work (at least on my Windows 11/Chrome/USA setup). But a little effort with Qobuz should make up for it.
A discovery for me. I am not sure which market Capitol were hoping to tap. All short tracks and mostly known tunes so you might think dinner party (never been to one) jazz. But hold them horses.
We know Benny never put a foot wrong but the real joy here is Jimmy Rowles and his wonderful mining of chords and time.
Vinegar and Lewis. Delightfully recorded. On Qobuz.
Just played the Junior Mance Trio. Not an artist I ever engaged with but very listenable.
They are just retreading ground that Mr Cuscuna had already covered in his Mosaic and Conn reissues of that material IMO.
Ethan Iverson’s favourite piano albums.
Many to choose from, I started with this. As he says, there are so many good Tommy Flanagan albums.
Yes but if you don’t own it already on mosaic it’s a way to buy a sealed copy and in a quality tip on jacket.
Fair enough re: vinyl but the music has been re-hashed quite a bit and not only on the Mosaic. Blue Note issued this on CD in 2005.
What goes around comes around etc.
Thanks’ for this list. Plenty to explore here. Iverson is a good pianist too.
Absolutely essential. Pride of place in my CD library.
Two Femail musicians this week. Two of Britain’s best Jazz musicians.
A Paradise In The Hold (Remixed) by Yazz Ahmed. Some great alternative mixes to an already great album, on the edges of Jazz.
Inkyra by Emma Rawicz Inkyra. Very Jazz Rock. This one needs a couple of listens, to reveal itself.
I love the Yazz Ahmed album. One of my favourites of the year. Will try the other.
