Are Naim chips smooth on the bottom or do they have felt or rubber on the bottom?
Smooth, with a recess in the middle. This post has a photo showing the top and bottom:
Thanks. I need to be able to move them around a bit
Not a dumb question at all, search on here for " Speaker spikes - Penny/Chips/Skeets/Etc
They seem to be solid machined discs
Martin
Thanks Martin
I slide my speakers around on them (Kudos Titan 707’s) without any problems
Thanks Mike
Perhaps I’m the dumb one. I read it as you asking if I.C’s (chips) had a smooth underneath. So I’m then thinking do people put rubber under the chip to help with vibrations? ![]()
To the best of my knowledge, no they don’t.
The smooth side of the Chip goes on your solid floor. Naim’s mechanical engineers have done the thinking, so that we don’t have to ![]()
At least one person, to my knowledge, has done some further thinking and claimed that Chips improve the sound more if you turn them upside down.
There’s always one in every crowd
I find my Naim Chips easy to move around (polished solid wooden floors). Given their relatively small size, I imagine that they might be more difficult to slide around if you had a thick tufted carpet (smooth/consistent carpet would likely be fine).
I have a thin Persian rug
Over something smooth like a persian rug the chips should slide nicely
I need to move dbls occasionally so I just put the thinest layer of felt on the bottom of the chips with a bit of spray glue.
I have my ATC’s on a thin but large 10’ x 14’
Bokhara rug. I wanted a smooth backside so I can make small adjustments to speaker placement. I had previously been using IsoAcoutics Gaia’s but I didn’t like what they do.
