Has anyone noticed the price of the latest Linn Klimax LP12. A staggering £32,000 pounds. Is the price of our hifi hobby getting a little bit out of control?
Does that include the announcement today of the new Klimax Radikal and Keel SE ?
Out of control
I believe so, but excluding the Bedrock. Bought my mid level Linn LP12, Ittok LV111/2, Lingo, Asaka for about £2100 back in the day.
Looks like it does include these 2 new upgraded components. Why not add a Bedrok and get it up to £40K eh? ![]()
You’re the joker mate ![]()
Yea, need a sense of humour owning a LP12 these days. Only recently added a Keel and Accurate Radikal 2 and now feel like its a ‘poverty spec’!![]()
And that’s how they get you, LP!
Makes the Klimax DSM/3 a positive bargain at a mere £35k.

“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in”
Got my first LP12 in 1979 just after the price had gone up to 294 GBP from 250 GBP. With the Rega R200 and ADC LMG-1 headshell and the Ortofon VMS20E/II that I owned, the total was 340 GBP, including delivery and installation by Doug Brady himself.
I bought my LP12 from Billy Vee when they were based in Lewisham. I paid £230 for it and he installed my SME arm from my Thorens 150. That was in 1978, the only part left from the original deck is the outer platter.

Martin
I got to the first of 3 open days @Cymbiosis yesterday to see and moreover hear the new Keel SE and Kilmax Radikal
had Keel in my deck since 2001, upragded from Kore which when you hear them side by side is a no brainer to be honest Keel was on another level, Keel SE has rasised the musical bar again and now the difference between Kore and Keel SE is far bigger, this will I am sure mean Keel owners who wish to move to Keel SE can do so with other owners can then upgrade to Keel as more pre loved Keels in the market, I for one will move when the ££ allow
for Aro owners from what I understand this can not be fitted to the new Keel SE, so for me Keel SE is massive musicalimprovement over Kore and the new chassis benchmark for LP12
Kilmax Radikal again musical bar has risen and not by a small way, there is now no need to purchase Uphorick as 2 powerails to power Urika and Motor large casing and more internal improvements in case work, I now from talking to Peter he needs to get to grips and demo with other phono stages inc Naim
so if of interest get to dealer and hear the musical difference which I am sure you will
most of all enjoy the journey and the music
It actually was a reference to The Godfather 3😁
Can you explain your comment about the new Radikal, Urika and Uphorik - the Radikal (versions 1 and 2) has always powered the Urika. I don’t understand what has changed with the new version of the Radikal.
Idid exactly the same this year LP
Still, I guess we’d both agree in absolute terms these are two big upgrades even if relative to the new stuff they are somewhat eclipsed. If I do spend any more money on the LP12 in the near future it will probably be on a tonearm to bring that up a level. I do like the look of the Bool Audio Aro look-alike that Cymbiosis have in now although no Keel fitment available (yet..
). I wonder if this new Keel (with a seemingly detachable arm collar) is designed with flexibility for other arm fitment in mind.
Interesting that Linn now has realized
that it’s not so good to power both the
motor and the Ulrika from the same rails ..
In two years, there might be a separate power supply for the Urika ![]()
who’s going to call @Skeptikal ![]()
well spotted ![]()
