Limetree Bridge with ND555

Then it seems really clear cut. Why would one want extra boxes and extra cords. I’d lose the Lindemann if I were you if the difference is that small.

Perhaps the NDS is a bit diffuse compared to the 555. Seems that is the direction Naim has taken with the newer streamers which incidentally is more like the other dacs I have tried. They have more resolution and edge than the rounded sound of the NDS. Also legend has it the ndac is even more diffuse so it could be the Naim evolution.

Try the following
i. Disable all unused inputs
ii. Unplug the network cable for two minutes at the streamer then reconnect (if your on LAN).
If you use a ground cable, disconnect it
iii. Try with only the streamer connected (no other sources)
iv. Disconnect all ancillaries, then factory reset

Good luck, otherwise Naim support and a new thread.

It was only bought to deal with the firmware issues.

I had Farad powering EE8 so all I have purchased is Limetree.

Will keep it as back up.

Anyway not finished test yet!

Was set to floating. Now tried ground.

Oops - that’s what I had in mind. There is still the magic of 3.8.x missing. So you updated from 3.8.x to the recent patch…
Oh dear… still a shift … hate to trust my ears.
But others had compared to external streamers and found it fixed.

You know from my previous tests it’s pretty much the same. The DAC and implementation of NDS and ND555 very similar. Basically new casework, new screen remote and more modern with ND555.

Now it becomes interesting.
Will be interested how you feel the difference. There is one!
I am still not convinced that the patch brought back the magic.

Try the ground switch set to floating - and check again!

I am fairly certain it did not. Maybe it made things more consistent. After two days I am now considering other transport options. I still love the dac.

I think the Naim patch has brought it back to sounding as it was before personally. No shrill, has bounce back. Sounds good.

But it’s early days. Let’s see how consistent it is over time.

I feared that a bit. Try floating position before spend a lot of money on different streamers.

Now hearing perhaps better separation on Limetree!

This is gonna be a tough test.

It’s not like there is much difference. So far prefer Limetree maybe!

Can you please test floating vs default on nd555 against each other.
I have done this all day long

So for me,

I was p/ssed off with firmware. Couldn’t wait so got Limetree.

Now like I said a few days ago interested in hearing Rossini in my system.

But I must admit system synergy is all there since Limetree was fitted. I like Naim sound. Tricky one.

Once Rossini goes in, will it come out?

Anyway, discussion for another time me thinks. For now things are very good. Time to sit back and enjoy the system.

I’ve switched to default @drago.

Better than floating?

Mate, I am switching between Limetree and ND555 streaming boards as well.

I prefer Limetree a bit more I reckon.

Floating has more air and space than default. Better soundstage.

We are talking small margins here.

Mr switch …
I know how this goes.
I found default to have more air and playing more forward and floating more 3d and relaxed

Just gone back and test the S/PDIF input into my NDS vs UPnP

S/PDIF is UltraRendu as Roon Endpoint, USB output with a XMOS USB->S/PDIF into BNC Digital input, so the NDS is a DAC

UPnP, is the SonoreUPnP Bridge running on the UltraRendu, as Roon Endpoint (Srqueezelite), NDS ‘sees’ a locally sourced UPnP stream on the Ethernet input.
UltraRendu is powered by the UltraCap LPS 1 power supply
USB->S/PDIF is power by the USB port, so the UltraCap LPS

Playing new Miles Davis “Birth of Blue” 24/192 from Qobuz and the UPnP is still better overall.

However, the NDS is on the EtherREGEN ‘B’ port with a Chord Sarum Tuned Array Streaming cable, and the UltraRendu on the ‘A’ ports side using a Chord Anthem Streaming cable.
UltraRendu to USB convertor is a short Curious Audio USB cable, and then a Harmonic Technology Digital cable (RCA to BNC)

Feed into the EtherREGEN is Audioquest Vodka into the wall, and patch cabling is CAT5 which is repurposed infrastructure cabling intended for phone points.
