Limetree Bridge with ND555

No it doesn’t have a DAC, it’s a streamer/server. I have listened to the ND555 many times but didn’t compare to the Innuos Statement, it’s not a like for like comparison. I already had a DAC, DAVE, so a ND555 for me wasn’t really a sensible option.
If you’re looking at ND555 alternatives, something from DCS, T+A, Weiss, Nagra or Vitus would provide a basis for comparison.

The innuos statement is a server and streamer.
You need to add a dac to it, like the chord dave in this instance.

I do think that if space is not an issue a separate DAC and separate streamer/bridge is the best long term solution.

100% agree

Weiss 502 is a very impressive DAC. And so it should be for the price.

Difficult to pick up used it seems, so you’re in for the whole near £10k

I agree it is impressive, also the Weiss 501 DAC is much the same spec as the 502 at a lower cost. I’ve been very impressed by their DACs including the more affordable 204.

Hi :slightly_smiling_face:…

I can really recommend InnuO’s streamers.
AND,.they have an open and inclusive dialogue with us users via their own forum.

The owner Nuno and his technical experts participate there,.and solve problems that may arise for us users.
AND,.their app, Sense, is upgraded at least once a month, when any requests etc. are made by us users.
And many many people think,.that the sound quality via Sense is better than via Roon.
Innuos has,.through the above mentioned,.an incredible contact with its users/customers.

I would like to say that they are a role model in the industry.

I think 501/2 are basically identical except for form factor, maybe headphone amp added?

The Weiss is up there with mScaler/Dave on our wish list, so I guess that actually makes it a slight bargain (if you can ever call a £10k device a bargain).

In time Chord may win here, simply because it can be done in stages and at used prices.

Dan,

Lovely setup. I am familiar with two side by side stacks which can be brains and brawn.

My inner voice, asked if we call a triple stack, Bed, Bath, and Beyond (with an air guitar flourish)?

I am intrigued by the device you have near the speaker, is it active or passive, and beyond break-up standing waves does it have other purposes?

Or you could take the opposite view.

It doesn’t look good that the owner is spending hours and hours fire fighting problems with customers.

I like an app that isn’t constantly changing. Especially as it would appear updates don’t always go smoothly.

I use a Primare streaming bridge. They’ve had no contact with me, simply because I’ve had no cause to contact them in the 18 months I’ve been using it.

Very little difference, both have a headphone amp, the 502 has an additional 4 pin headphone socket.
You are right, In the second hand market you will find far more DAVE/MScaler options at a reasonable discount. I would guess next year when Chord introduce their new Quartet scaler that plenty of MScaler examples will be available at good prices.

Are you referring to Santa?

Agreed on that one. local_server → streamer → dac. Good isolation and you can match boxes and power supplies to your liking. I’ve always liked ladder-dacs better. My latest tweak was using I2S to the DAC with a 60cm Audioquest Vodka I2S-cable.

I too have one.

Oh yes, the Santa! Is it USB or Ethernet enabled? I have to assume it is LPS powered with discrete component voltage regulators. None of that IC crap like LM317 or PCM1704.

Bit confused @Ron_H

The naim nDAC, which you own (above), uses the PCM1704 which you profess to be “crap”. As does the ND555 in your profile.

Are you saying you’ve moved on from the ND555? Where did you move to and how did you feel it was better than the ND555?

Your profile still shows you are a 500 series setup. Based on recent discussions would be interested as to where you moved - Chord/Weiss/DCS etc.? Seems several ND555 owners would value information on your journey away from naim ND555.

The PCM1704K chipset is the chipset of choice that Naim uses in its high end DAC stages such as in the CD555, CDX2, NDAC, NDS and ND555. Arguably one of the best ladder based converters that Texas Instruments have produced,

Is it still in production?

No… I think it is a case of NOS. There were (are?) fake and pirated 1704 chips as well to satisfy the demand by hobbyists and enthusiasts as there were/are many enthusiast design patterns using them.
