You need a transport protocol converter … USB audio and SPDIF are completely different and separate from each other.
However the quality of this converter is critical if not to rob performance. It needs to adopt a highly stable and regulated clock with low digital noise.
Well we are a bit spoilt with the DAVE, but then it’s hardly what you would call a low end purchase.
A Naim streamer with its digital audio output feeding a DAVE is simply delightful… right now that feeding a N50 driving RK Red speakers is musical satisfaction… unhealthily addictive… and sets the bar very high.
Out of interest Simon, how big is the room housing the N50? I’m curious about the amp and wondering what space it’s capable of filling (I’m small stand mounts by the way and have no plans for bigger speakers).
Hi, my main listening room is about 7 m by 3.2 m… bit not the same width throughout… which I think helps acoustics. I have my RKs firing down the room slightly toed in … with some acoustic bass and mid reflection absorbers.
With usb to spdif converter. @Filipe uses that way.
Thanks that’s helpful ![]()
You are welcome… the N50 has plenty of power really, peaking at over 200 watts… yes driving smaller speakers is often harder than larger floor mounts because of less efficiency and attenuated low end… but the N50 has no trouble driving those smaller speakers well.
So I gather. I’ve been stalking the N50 thread and seems there’s much to like… the simplicity is appealing to me.
Agh yes… it was to me as well ![]()
The only real world downside is a lack of remote, and no tape out… but I use the remote on DAVE so really the lack of remote is moot for me… and plays well to the simplicity.
Funny, doesn’t bother me at all! And brand new units available for £1699!
Well if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket… I think you’d be hard pushed to buy better for that price…
Go for it. It’s a super little amp. I mainly use mine for headphone duties in my home office, but it’s nice to bring it into my main system every now and then.
I am not interested in changing; but if I was to start again I would be very tempted by this combination. A second hand Dave sold on ebay a few days ago for a good price.
Has anyone ever tried a Innuos Statement?
That is weird as the Zen Mini has coax, optical and RCA. Looks like a good little box for the money.
But so it is ![]()
Well Dan we will certainly have a fun day early next year, and you never know what might come of it.
I have an Innuos Statement with a DAVE, the Statement is very good.
I’m looking forward to checking different kit out!
Who knows what will happen?
Whatever you will certainly be blown away by it all i am certain of that.
Does it have its own DAC? I had assumed it was an all in one solution given the price tag. Out of interest, did you compare to any other options like the ND555?
