No corners in his designsš¤£
I donāt really get the antipathy/villification from some members on this forum toward Linn, remember how some here were calling out Linn as despicable and greedy when they introduced Karousel (āupgrades every yearā etc) after Cirkus had been introduced only a couple of decades (I forget the exact years, but it was a long while) beforeā¦
Donāt like the style (Iām not overenthusiastic myself)? Donāt buy it. Think itās too much money (I do, but itās an extremely limited run only for the collectors I suspect)? Donāt buy it. Easy.
Iāll await any trickledown for the plinth. The curvy bitsā¦nah, not for me. The bedrok plinth could be interestingā¦if available with flutes, lol.
Yes, they just supply people like Marshall, Fender, Orange etc for concert amps and speakers.
I assumed that companies like Fender and Marshall would build their ownā¦
I would like to imagine that that was the case when Jimi Hendrix was performing.
I think they do all the cabinetry and electronics, but Celestion and others supply the speaker drive units, presumably more lucrative.
THat arm is the Clearaudio Universal, and it is quite an excellent tonearm. I have the 9" version on my Ovation, but will also get a 12" version if/when I order an Innovation Wood.
Why did you want Appleās fortune to turn round?
They are a world leader in planned obsolescence (i.e. e-waste in pursuit of endless profit growth).
I didnātā¦but I assume all the Apple owners do.
So you think doubling the price is justified with what appears to be just a minor change of looks and not much solid engineering upgrades.
Well so sorry for disagreeing with you
No need to apologise.
The cost isnāt my concern: I cannot afford it even if I wanted to (which I donāt). I donāt get heated about the cost of fast cars or other goods, including state of the art amplifiers or collectorsā turntables.
A bit more civility would not go amissā¦
Lets try to agree to disagree, where we need to - and respect others viewsā¦
Itās a good thing they did, otherwise the tech industry might be even more monopolistic than it is now. Also, Apple made a number of key innovations which forced rivals to compete with and improve on. Their activities also helped create and support an entire ecosystem of support businesses (cases, headphones, software, apps, cables etc etc) , providing hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people with paid employment. On the whole, Apple surviving is more positive than negative.
I have a small Apple position (original $6k investment) and over the years the gains have paid for my speakers, NDX2, 252, 300DR, a Mu-so2, and a custom built titanium bicycle. I still have 5x what I put into it.
I agree Ian.
Name-calling is not respectful disagreement or useful discussion.
Thing is, nobody knows what engineering improvements Linn has or hasnāt made to this LP12-50, because no announcement about specs has been made yet. Something will be unveiled in the next few days, apparently.
That is definitely playing safe, Skeptikal!
You donāt want any contaminants in the hole that will lead to much grief later.
I think you miss my point. I disagree with a cost hike 2 fold without any real engineering improvement and mostly minimal changes to the looks.
I agree looks are important but they should go hand in hand with real improvements that enhance our enjoyment of music. I donāt know what the plinth brings but I agree with some others not a performance increase to justify the cost
Thank you for pointing that out and I believe I did mention that. I will ask my Linn elite dealer when I talk to him next
Thank youā¦
