I don’t disagree and I do celebrate it, I am just commenting on my cynical view of limited special editions.
All the best to you and all at Cymbiosys,

I have just looked at the invoice for my LP12 from 89. £550 for the deck and £125 for the arm. From memory about 50% of my take home pay at the time.
It’s now a different universe. I later added an Aro for £660 and a Lingo 1 for ( I think) £400. Makes me smile.
Yes, they probably will sell but to genuine audiophiles or people with no financial constraints whatsoever who just buy ‘the best’?
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a lucrative market for luxury high-end hi-fi but in an age where the demographics of those who purchase separates/hi-fi are completely different to a few decades ago I’m not sure companies are not shooting themselves in the feet by alienating core customers with items they cannot afford.
My early Naim gear in the 90s was comparatively expensive but the incredible quality:cost ratio worked for hi-fi from many vendors then. I’m really not sure that’s as true these days.
That’s a pristine receipt. I just dug out a few from decades ago. Prices weren’t cheap but comparatively they seem to be now.
Linn Axis well under £300 after part-exchanging a Revolver.
Cirkus upgrade was £225 in early 90’s.
I have a receipt for a NAP 180 - never had one unless my memory’s gone, must have changed order to a NAP 250/HICAP to go with the NAC 72 along with Epos ES14s.
Mine chose the Obelisks. Numerous speakers demo’d at home. She chose those. Very happy with her choice.
Problem is, I find I spend far more money than I intended when I include her…
I think the Lingo 1 was closer to £500, I got it on release when I was a student (kind Bank Manager loan wise back then) and my housemates thought I was bonkers as it was more than most students spent on a full separates system.
Trouble is they were all stunned at the upgrade in SQ it ‘illogically’ brought to the table and never teased me about it afterwards. I think the Cirkus was probably as good but cheaper.
If not upgraded it’s cost you less than a tenner each year!
I don’t blame you for playing it safe
You think it hasn’t…??
Ah, Sound Advice. Brilliant dealer and lovely people. I spent many a happy hour there between 1983 and 1986.
It’s a nice refresh of a classic design, too bad it’s a limited edition as the LP12 could use an update. The Jony Ive connection has netted Linn a ton of free publicity. It reminds me of Leica and their constant release of “special editions” and calibrations with companies like Hermes. The die-hard photographers hate these products, but the high prices probably account for much of Leica’s profit. I’d expect more of these “limited” type products from everyone, including Naim. (Muso Bentley cough-cough)
I’d be curious who’s buying? Die-hard Linn owners, Jonny Ive fanboys, Oligarchs? LP12 is a great turntable… $60K good, no so sure.
Only because you said:
I took ‘Still the same’ to mean no upgrades/mods.
Even without any upgrades apart from cartridge/belt changes I’d imagine it would still be great. I’d often like to compare an old LP12 to my current setup and I’m honestly not sure I wouldn’t have preferred an older combination.
I sold my Lingo 1 a few years ago - it had cost me under £17/annum of ownership and I still had about £200 for part-ex on top of that - amazing!
Lol !
It’s also a superior Pre Cirkus LP12
I hope that Linn find themselves stuck with lots of these horrid looking decks unsold, and that they take that lesson to heart.
Has Ivor T stepped down from his executive position at Linn, and stepped back in favour of Gilad? Someone will need to carry the can!
My meaning - the same LP12, that I have posted about before…
(for those paying attention)
I don’t read every post let alone remember them - worrying if you’ve put me straight in the past though and I forgot
I don’t think my post was critical or derogatory as if you’d not upgraded a thing I think it would still sound great with the usual maintenance costs.
My value for money comment was based on the Lingo 1 which did sterling work for 30 years and initial cost spread over that time cost very little per annum which I thought was a bargain and have mentioned several times before.
