LINN 50th Anniversary LP12

That’s a bit harsh Graham.

The old man took a step back a while ago. Gilad is running the show now and Linn seem to be doing very well.

Nice to know he’s still with us then.

No offence taken… :expressionless:

When the LP12 was my main/only source, it got regularly minor upgrades and cartridge changes. This stopped, pretty much, once I had a CD player (around 1992). The Cirkus, Lingo & Kore have been done much more recently - simply because my finances allowed it. The Cirkus was elective (bought ‘new’), both the Lingo & Kore were opportunistic (they became available, pre-loved). There is still a cartridge swap outstanding which I have not yet enacted… :slightly_smiling_face:

Karousel. :+1:t2:

???

I wonder what Jony Ives motives were to approach Linn like that. Makes you wonder really.

The likes of Linn and Naim are becoming so far out of reach now for most people. Shame really but there you go

What warrants the description “horrid” about the 50?

The only changes I see in the photos are the circular on/off button and the rounded-corner armboard…

It’s hardly taking a hammer to the design.

Wonder if the same applies to the searchlight on the Nait 50…

Frightening to think it’s not that long ago I had to do dual slide projector presentations for work.

Then again thinking about it it was over 20 years ago

Believe I read (via the link - now nixed) that he was a long term Linn owner and had visited them previously…?

Though are you pro or anti Karousel bearing?

I’m on the fence as I’m not sure my LP12 has been enhanced by it.

Trouble is I did Kore, Trampolinn II (?), Radikal and cartridge ‘upgrades’ at the same time which makes it impossible to ascribe sonic changes to individual components. Huge lesson there, but you had to spend over 3k to get the free Karousel upgrade a few years ago.

That’s great. The trouble is that associations with people or companies like that encourages selling a klimax LP12 for £50000. Sorry but this is a blatant rip off to say the least

Having paid new price for the Cirkus, not that long ago, I am not changing the bearing again, no matter what.

Cirkus and Lingo 1 were the best upgrades my LP12 ever had in terms of value for money, I probably wish I’d stopped there.

There really is no need for nastiness. You don’t like it, so don’t buy it. I think it’s lovely. I don’t want one, and couldn’t afford it if I did, but that doesn’t stop it being lovely. Let’s celebrate a British company doing well.

No one’s forcing you to buy one. All power to Linn if they sell all 250. As mentioned further up the thread, the publicity for Linn outside of the usual Hi-Fi press is fantastic for the profile and future of the company.

Yes, it’s given you good service over the years and you have been able to improve it when you wanted to. All the cast off parts were part exchanged so the value could be used in your LP12 going forward. Many of those PXs were probably bought back at prices than the product sold for originally! look at Lingo 1, Ittok and Aro prices then and now second-hand. That’s pretty good IMHO  KR, Peter
