Linn Sondek LP-12 newbie

I had it on an Ikea Lack in a rented property for 18 months, it was pretty hopeless on a suspended floor. I still use the Lack (temporarily) for my second system, non-LP12, on a solid floor. It is ok I suppose.

Best not to be too dogmatic about laws of physics. Real world practicalities can make a huge difference.

The Aria is an excellent Phono stage and I’d say very well matched to a Selekt level LP12 and I can’t think of a reason why it shouldn’t match your Kendo. Lovely Vinyl front end! Enjoy

I think it only makes no sense if one assumes that a suspended subchassis provides perfect isolation from external vibrations. In practice it doesn’t, especially at frequencies close to one of the resonant frequencies of the suspension system. Coupling of the subchassis suspension modes to the resonant modes of a “wobbly” table causes a difference in turntable’s dynamic response to an “external vibration”. Whether this is sounds better or worse is a subjective.

Hi to all,

Update.. I’m traveling up to the lovely Northeast of England next Saturday to collect the Linn so the countdown will begin and the week will drag until then. I’ve been very busy over the last couple of weeks and I was on holiday in Portugal recently, and changed job too.

As for supporting the Linn, I’ll be using my Solid Sounds wall shelf for now, but my missus and I have decided we want to rip an old hole in the wall fire out of the chimney breast and expand the opening to house my hifi. Basically, there will be two oak sides with a plinth near the floor but a gap to put all the cables away from view, and 10mm toughened glass shelves, [maybe thicker?] I’m not sure yet. I don’t know how wide the shelves will be but around 1200mm @12mm is a possibility. This a critical part of the project so I want to get the shelf size spot on.

The oak sides will be routed so the glass can slide in dead level and the top shelf will be where the linn will live. I did think of getting a Fraim to go inside the expanded hole but my missus dosen’t like. that idea much.

I’ll be looking to sort the cabling out too so it won’t be seen and hopefully after all that it will look amazing. It’s all part of a lounge makeover and costing a fair few quid.

I’m sure the Linn will sound great on 10mm - 12mm glass which is dead level and not prone to moving around, but I’m open to any advice here.

As soon as I have some more news I’ll let you know, but again thanks for all your comments and advice - it really is appreciated.. Mike..
