Love the 272 please update - 1 click like post

I use MConnect Player HD on an iPad to get hires Qobuz and Tidal.

Sounds great.

Does anyone switch off the screen on their 272?

Does this make it sound better?

Mine is set to go off as quickly as possible - a few seconds. It reduces the likelihood of it burning out and costing £300 to replace.

I do, both my 272 and UQ2 are set to the minimum of 10 seconds.

Also when using the Kazoo app to control Qobuz via BubbleUPnP the 272 or UQ display only comes on when you adjust the volume not when selecting tracks.

Love the 272 but thinking of upgrade to ndx2 streamer.
I have the xps dr PS and NOW I wonder…
If I buy a ndx2…
Can I run it as a streamer and use the 272 as preamplifier still?
Will it be better to Power the ndx2 with the xps dr or the 272?
Or do I have to buy one more xps dr so they booth have externa PS?

There is also a NAP 300 on the system

Hi Thomas. All your questions are answered here

actually that is a good point.

Buy the ND5XS 2 as a steamer, but run the digital output into the 272/555DR (the DAC and preamp benefit from the 555DR)

upgrade of 272 is done…

Wouldn’t it be better to run it through the analog inputs, that way you’d have the newer DAC running into the 272 pre amp. Best of both worlds.

there is no new DAC. only a new streaming board.

I would have thought they’d update the DAC.

If that’s the case I wouldn’t upgrade my 272 just for the streaming board, I’d expect a new DAC.

Looking at the spec sheets 272 uses the Burr-Brown PCM1792A DAC and ND5XS2 PCM1791A DAC

Not sure what the differences are between to two.

Just looked up the NDX2 this uses the PCM1792A DAC

There’s more than the DAC which is a chipset only, sound quality depends on the whole configuration …

I completely agree just stating that the DAC inside a 272 is different to the ND5XS2.

I have a gut feeling that Naim will … update the 272 … they probably have plenty of design time available…

Thought as much so the advice still goes.

Just a gut feeling or based on comments/ remarks from e.g. a dealer?

I still think all the pre amps need an update.

Agree ! as they haven’t changed much since they were launched in year 2000.

After the integrated amps last year, will 2020 be the year of the pre amps ?

Would love to see an upgraded 272 on the new streaming platform and with no internal power supply.
