LP12 PSU for 45rpm

Hello!

I’m currently running a pre cirkus LP12, Nait 2 and Linn Kans (1st gen).

Have been playing this for some time now and am very happy with it all, however the 45rpm itch has come and I’d really like to scratch it

I know LP12 PSU options have been heavily discussed but I’m really just curious to hear from anyone that may have had the LP12, Nait, Kans set up, and which direction they might go in and why?

A few options I’ve been considering here:

Lingo 1 (serviced at Class A with filter removed) This was my first initial choice.

Lingo 2 (late model)
Minos or Zeus
VP Revolution

I’ve seen mentioned that Lingos although providing a nice uplift in SQ might weaken the bass which isn’t the strong point with my current set up. Anyone experienced this?

As always any help much appreciated.

If you like the Valhalla ps you probably will love the Hercules II or the external ‘Mose’ third party version of it. I thought it cloned but improved on the Valhalla very positively! I used it in a 1987 model NAIT 2 but with DIY speakers. One of the best setups for music I have had.
If you use google there should be a short review of it at PF.

I used a Lingo 1 from release until a few months ago. It was faultless. Serviced once by Class A who removed whatever filter it was fashionable to remove. That didn’t seem to have any impact. Used with Kans, Saras, SBLs & current Piegas. Also with Cirkus, pre Cirkus and Karousel. The Lingo stood the test of time. Other Lingos may be better but I doubt Lingo 1 would disappoint and I’m guessing would be something of a bargain? Interestingly my dealer bought it plus my Cirkus bearing to use on a bits and pieces LP12 he was building for his own use.

Thanks for the response. I should mention my LP12 is quite an early one so I believe it’s just the basic power supply not the Valhalla. Great to hear your positive comments- I am really enjoying it!

Very good to hear the positivity for the Lingo 1. This is what I was thinking but I’m not sure how much of a bargain it is these days. If I managed to find a healthy one circa £400 then Class A service and filter removal £155. Can probably find a late Lingo 2 for roughly the same (which may or may not need a service of course.

Great to hear you were very happy with the Lingo

Keep in mind that Lingo 1 is a 35 years old design, with Lingo 2 and 3 mostly updates in the casing. On the other hand, both Zeus and VP Revolution are newer, improved designs with upgraded components. Zeus offers the benefit of a tachometer and will achieve 33.33 without worries, but it does cost a bit more. I own both of these products and have installed and fine-tuned them myself, I can assure you can’t go wrong with either one.

I am another who rates the Hercules PS for the LP12. I had one for several years on my 78 vintage LP12, very similar to a Valhalla and somewhat cheaper.

The Lingo 1 has the advantage of being the best looking of all the Lingos imo. Fits in beautifully with Naim half width boxes. Hope you find what you want.

I’ll have a further look into the Hercules II Mose. Thanks.

Yes, this is true

I had Lingo 1 for about 7 years. It sounds fantastic. And it’s Linn. Only upgraded it for Radikal 2 Klimax.

In the end I had high end deck with Lingo 1 including Kore, Karousel and Ekos 2. Lingo 1 still sounded really good. I had mine serviced by Class A and mains filter removed.

I highly recommend it.

If anything the Lingo 1 will add clarity at the bass in a way that I see as reinforcing it.

Great to hear Dan. This has always been my gut feel. It was just a couple of comments I came across where people said it can thin out the bass for some reason.

This is reassuring to hear - thanks!

It’s brilliant power supply. My LP12 was quite high end when I changed it out. And sold it pretty much for what I paid for it. Didn’t get money back on service, but that didn’t cost much either. I would defo go Lingo 1. It’s Linn! Not 3rd party which is another bonus.

Bass is perfect on Lingo 1. Difference between what I have now and Lingo 1 is lower noise floor and greater accuracy, improving timing and so on. But Radikal 2 Klimax is big money. For £500 or less Lingo 1 is perfect. Lingo 2 is just recased 1 pretty much. Lingo 1 for me was solid purchase. Never had any issues with it. I doubt I even need to service it. I was one of the earliest ones too.

A lingo 1 in good condition is the way to go save money and modifications for other devices.
Fit and forget. :+1:t2:

Lingo 1 was my first LP12 upgrade used with pre Cirkus bearing. Good choice. Great set up. Enjoy it! :ok_hand:
