Mains block placement?

Perfect response!

Especially for Skeptical I thought the Blue Peter joke was “Now what has Val made from two dried prunes and a Squeegee bottle?” DGP

Eminently sensible in my view. I would have done the same in the circumstances.

My mains block lives on the right hand side. :+1:

Hi
I’ve just had a revamp of my home made mains block.
The extra socket has been removed in fact it’s a new block. :+1:
I only need 3 sockets so the spare one irked me a bit. :scream:

Hi @Skeptikal . That’s a really superb job, with great attention to detail. I’m impressed. Looks really good - much better than having that empty socket leaking all the current out all over the floor! :+1:

Everything sounds so much more together now.
The socket blanks are in the bin and spare plug is on the end of the new block. :+1:

It looks great and you will no longer have to deal with all that dust ingress!!

New business opportunity?

Just took delivery of my MCRU block, its replacing a bog standard one and the Naim gear and the turntable go direct to wall socket, but if it puts everything else in a better place then all cool.

Any news @MarkL3w … MG vs RA

I’m interested if you do go DIY
In my system its very bespoke to fit behind a dropdown door inside the rack, DIY power block configeration flexibility enables this.

Plus of course you can wire it in the better radial config..

That is a very neat solution.

As far as my search goes, I’m starting to think I’m cursed! I emailed (I really need to start calling people I think but why have an email address?) Mark Grant cables to ask if they could fit the cable at the other end so when I plugged in my cables could all run under the rack. I have yet to receive a reply.

The Russ Andrew’s block was on eBay and I posted the above just as the auction was closing and my bid was winning by some margin. Outbid at the last second!

I have therefore yet to compare anything other than the MCRU to the Tacima and I have ebayed the Tacima.

To be fair I’ve also been rather silly and splurged on 3 full fat powerlines as well!

Hi again, re Mark Grant, yes maybe better a phone call to understand what is the out of stock situation.

If it’s the white block you are thinking about, it’s internally wired and the individual sockets can be unscrewed and turned 180 degrees.

MCRU mains block No.75 wall mounted. Rhodium Plug and wall socket.

Modified Naim powerlite plugs and MCRU IEC connectors

I too have modified the Powerline Lite 13A plugs to accept LoRad 1.5mm/2 cable. I’m not that impressed by the design TBH.
My other plugs are Permaplug as used by Vertere in their Redline cables. They cost absolute peanuts, less than £2 from some outlets. They’re simple no frills, heavy duty, good quality, well engineered and with a sensible cable clamp that takes a larger cable than yer average 13A plug and it does not crush the cable. I have them fitted with LoRad 2.5mm/2.

I agree the Naim plugs aren’t that great
I used MS HD Rhodium on my Linn LP12 and on the MCRU mains block.
But they are incredibly expensive.
I may change at some point.
Did you notice a change in SQ going to the Lorad cable? I certainly did.

I’ve been circling the power cable sink hole for years,
I want my cables to install without any coiled up excess length, so no full fat Powerlines ( although I’ve tried them)
The original LoRads for sure made an SQ difference. I then went thru a bunch of others, list too long etc., but I’m now back to LoRad and I should say I’m done, but I’ve said that before.

Hi I’d stick with the Mark Grant arrangement.
I’ve just made a new block as only need 3 sockets and am delighted. :+1:

I think I’ll just stick with my Shunyata Denali v2 and Shunyata Alpha v2 power cables.

I’ll make a suggestion for those of you who don’t like to spend big money. Consider one of the newer AudioQuest PowerQuest units. Well reviewed and reasonably priced, 303, 505, 707.
