@Mike_S Hope it happens without incident. Things should be fine.
P10 arrived today pre- set up with a factory installed Apheta. Compared to my former P9 it is visually striking to say the least. The tonal balance compared with the P9/Exact has moved toward less warm and also more details. Bass is really tight. Will sound get warmer over time?
The cartridge will loosen up after 30-50h. I have read some saying the P10 with its ceramic platter is leaning towards less warm, more details but just sharing what I’ve read. My experience with most things new is that it often sounds cold, stiff, hard the first +50h and then starts to settle.
Apheta is more on the cold side, the earlier edition the more.
Ania Pro is warmer, no idea about Aphelion or Nd9.
Some prefer the P8 because of this, but wait 50 hours before making up your mind; The exact has boosted bass, your ears also need time to adjust…
I’ve heard this argument before. Anyway, a P10 is a lovely thing.
Give it a few days.
I moved from P9 to P10. I would say that the P10 could be described as ‘less warm sounding’…I think that its engineering makes it less sensitive to the effects of feedback , so details will not be masked by low frequency artefacts for example. You are very likely to adjust to this and appreciate that it is an improvement. Keep listening!![]()
Is it necessary to keep the P10 Power Supply on all the time?
No
Thanks @frenchrooster
I wouldn’t describe the P10/Apheta as either cold or warm just very musical. If by warm this infers coloured then yes I guess the P10/Apheta is less warm but more detailed. Only judge after a lengthy running in period. I use a PL Lite on my P10 power supply. Most important though is to position the P10 power supply as far away from the TT as possible.
@pslosarc Thanks. The P10 power supply is on the next shelf down on the rack. About 7 inches down. Same place that the power supply was for the P9 when I had the P9. I am using a Rega Reference power cord. Same as when I had the P9.
Doubtless you are familiar with this snippet from the manual.
Having the PSU on the lowest shelf would be ideal. But if you can’t you can’t. Have you tried turning the volume up to full while not playing a record to see if there is any hum? Hopefully your dealer checked this as part of the install.
@HungryHalibut Even if there was a hum and I don’t think the dealer turned up the volume to max—if I can’t reach the power supply on a much lower shelf, then I need to accept it. The power supply was placed for ease of operation.
Absolutely. I do hope you are enjoying your P10. It’s a fantastic turntable.
@HungryHalibut i only played two records so far. Very different tonal balance than my P9/Exact. I am returning to records after a long absence. If I do 1-2 a day, I am ok with that.
Yes but as said that cartridge needs a few hours.
@LindsayM it will happen in due time😋
I listened to a 180G pressing of Peggy Lee Greatest Hits. I had listened about 3 weeks ago on my former P9. I thought I knew the record will. Silly me. Very different on the P10 Apheta. Had much more PRAT and communication than I thought it had.
