Making way for 500DR

As above when a 50p gets dr’ed it’s only the amp bit that gets done, nothing in the power supply change.
The dr conversion replaced everything apart from the main case, the boards are different, etc.
So you have basically a brand new 500 when dr’ed.
When mine got done the power supply wasn’t done, as i checked myby looking at the dates on the capacitors inside the power supply.
But i sent it off along with my 552 when i got that dr’ed. But it’s certainly something to check on them.

I have never understood why Naim stopped the DR upgrade option.

It was explained to you when you made the same comment, just last month.

That’s not my idea of an explanation!

It’s all set up now! Sounds good out of the box.

one thing i would be tempted to do if you can…

get the turntable on the left top stack.

52 on the top middle stack, that will leave a nice gap between your nds and pre.

hows it sounding mate?

It’s warming up @Ian. Only turned it on half an hour ago

It is sounding fantastic! Was quite a mission to set up so I am recovering from that!

It sounds massive. Bass is deeper, more slam. Instruments sound more real and three dimensional. Bigger, bolder and deeper. It’s very early days. Was glad to.set it up with no glitches first time round.

The LP12 was jumping if you walk near it, and I was going to strengthen my subfloor this weekend. However, as luck would have it the extra weight of the 500DR now means this problem has gone!

It’s certainly something to consider and with my layout at beginning of this topic I said I welcome suggestions. The 555PS was on middle Fraim before and NDS on top of left stack.

aaaaaah really, it does make sense the extra weight on the rack would help out.

I dont have a turntable but my floor is suspended

I think my floor maybe floating floor. Chipboard on insulation boards which is worst for turntables. It’s improved now with 500DR weighing the stack down. I may reinforce floor but it seems better, if not great. If I jump up and down then it moves the record. If I walk normally it is fine now. Just don’t put LP12 on at parties!

If you get a chance, try swapping the upper two shelves on the middle rack. It will get the 52 further away from the NDS.

So the NDS has more space and 52 less. Will certainly look better.

Will do it tomorrow. Shelf spacing will look better. Does the 52 need more headspace though. Will LP12 affect it?

With 500DR I noticed after I built system that rear ball bearing under glass is right on the edge of glass so it’s an opportunity to address that too!

The best would probably be the Linn on the left and the 52 on the top in the middle, but I understand the springy floor issue. Getting the 52 away from the NDS should help and I can’t imagine the LP12 would affect it. I think it’s one to try and see how you feel about it.

Let’s go with that for now. Would be good to get the floor rigid under LP12 but my system has changed so much of late and now positioning of LP12 could change again to the left stack. And then I may end up going down to 2 stacks. With Radikal and Urika reduces box count by 1. Can move Radikal to right stack. And may change NDS for ND555 which would mean 2 stacks only. Then LP12 would have to be on what is now middle stack.

Three stacks is lovely. It gives space for cable dressing and looks cool. But with changes to future proof things I woukd need to reinforce large area of floor. Which, if it is a flosting floor would be concreting it.

Let’s see how we get on.

Initial switch on will be wee bit disappointing. But I assure you things will sound fantastic after at least 1-3 months.
