I thought we were talking about pyschological influences. These are equally real and impact on us just as much whether they originate externally or internally.

We will have to disagree on what scepticism means. A typical dictionary definition is â**an attitude that shows you doubt whether something is true or usefulâ. Google AI expands that to â**A lack of conviction or an inclination to question statements before accepting them as fact.â A closed mind is quite different. But regardless, if you prefer your definition then I withdraw my claim to be sceptical, but instead I state that I have a tendency to not accept things without question, requiring evidence of fact where that is not already apparent to me. But not a closed mind as I actively seek that evidence.
I do use my ears, but try to make the hearing objective because it is not always simple. If you believe your ears/hearing cannot be fooled then there is no point continuing this conversation.
You two will argue about anything. Youâd argue over whether peas are green. Youâve killed off quite a few interesting threads in this way.

Killing off threads has never been an intention, but it is inevitable that when two or more people have different views that discussions can become protracted. Prompted by your comment I have just created a new thread to which any protracted or prolonged diversionary discussions can continue without adversely affecting the original thread - subject of course to people moving over to it.

Iâm not sure it needs a separate thread; a general diversions thread will never work. If something is genuinely interesting to members then starting a new thread is the way to go. When threads become long discussions between just two people, with no end in sight, one would hope that the participants have the self awareness to know when itâs putting off other members and that itâs time to stop.

Hardly necessary for the participating contributors to stop participating, indeed it is interesting to see how the contributions develop, - well I find it interesting anyway.

Youâre right of course. In this particular case itâs two individuals going on and on about blind testing. They will never agree and they have had the same discussion umpteen times before. It seems that the act of arguing is more important than the subject itself, and thatâs when it becomes obsessive and dull.

Too fiddly for me Dan - Iâve had it in the past. Too much rebuilding and obsessing over fastener tightness, ball bearings grease free and centred etc. Incidentally why do you say âbetter still Fraimliteâ? Fraim is far better.

Letâs not close the door completely. I figure this. Youâve devised a good way for yourself to evaluate equipment and it works well for you. Blind testing doesnât suit me and has never been something Iâve done in my more than 50 years interest in the hobby. I canât see myself changing now TBH! But I gather that itâs somethimg youâve done for a long time and since it seems to work for you I can understand your enthusiasm for it. But itâs definitely not right for everyone.
@HungryHalibut is quite right when he says weâll never agree. And thatâs fine - no reason why we should. I do find your approach fascinating though because itâs so very different to mine. You seem to have had more stability with your system than I do in terms of not having a desire to change or improve things.
You seem to attribute this at least partly to your blind testing of components. Well, maybe thatâs right in your case. Iâm not sure it would have had the same effect with me though. Mostly my desire to change has been driven by wanting to get something better. Not because of disatisfaction as such with what I had but just wanting something better. I think whatever system I had at any price I would always want something better. Itâs just the way I am. Or rather how I used to be. Iâve now come to the realisation that I need to call time on it all.
