Melco N10 part 2

Anyone knows when Melco update date starts, there were rumors of the update at the beginning of the month

You can configure the Melco to download automatically the new updates. I have done that but don’t know if it works however…

I’ve deliberately set my Melco NOT to download new updates - I want to verify they are better first!

I prefer the Twonky Server over Minim - a new update ahead will strip Twonky off and delete it I’m told and install a new version of Minim.

I don’t want that to happen - when I last A-B tested Twonky vs Minim, thinking I was going to use Minim as everyone loved it, it was very poor compared to Twonky server which slaughtered Minim on the Melco in terms of clarity, timing, dynamics - just better all-round.

So I took Minim off and that further improved it.

…so I want to hear, at my Dealer, a demo of Twonky vs Minim (new Melco version) to evaluate what it is like - if I like it and the problems are gone I will consider switching to it.

Otherwise I may get an unwanted downgrade installed.

I don’t think it will delete Twonky,You gonna have both of them, only you can choose between them which media is your default at that moment

I even don’t know which one I have, Twonky or Minim…I just leave it as that and haven’t noticed any changes since.

Right now you have Twonky

I would hope that it is both - but my Dealer told me it will also remove the existing Twonky when it is finally released and to back-up first. This is why I caution to find out first.

I did discuss this with the Melco head man and he told me that may support both Twonky and the new Minim ahead - but from a business perspective not having to pay for both and them already buying into Minim may mean you get no choice.

I’ve nothing against Minim - other than I have to like it first!

With all HiFi things I find I have to be careful in my choices as sometimes I achieve a great result with what I have and it is easy to ‘upgrade’ away from that balance.

With HiFi I am always wary of assuming anything before verification. :bear:

There was talk of a new firmware with many new features. When will it be released?

There are indications on twitter that it will be this week.

There is a 3 page ‘manual’, which shows shows the DL100 connected directly to a computer either for the purposes of ripping, or of playing a CD, but I’ve no idea what software one would use to control this.

A review of the baby brother the N100

After some comparison, have you a preference for the Melco or Innous ?

SQ wise the Melco. I compared upnp and direct attached usb to DAC. Even files ripped with melco transferred and played on Innous sound better, more 3D, less noise, organic, fine details. On melco are some test files done with several sw/ hw ripper- blue-ray ripped music, D100 ripped files, etc. This is really scary… D100 is a killer with melco storage. If Ihad to start again, I would buy a melco with external roon server. That is the advantage of the Innous- roon core runs within, no addtl. core server needed. Next firmware upgrade for melco will be roon player (not server) option and enhanced metadata service. Great time for audiophiles:-)

It‘s bad that the N100 has only 2TB and the expansion unit has 3TB. Why no 3TB to start with…with both units you‘re in the 3000€ park again…

New firmware V4.01 is now available to install for Melco ex

Is it worth? Have you tried ?

Didn’t try yet, need first to know if Twonky media will still be available for going back in case of being disappointed from Minim

I’m just about to press go for V4.01 I’ll let you know. But you could always Minim as I suggested at the beginning of the thread and see if you like it.

@Meni yes Twonky is still there and you can choose Twonky or Minim in the front Settings, music databse, mediaserver app Twonky is the default.
