What is the most musical and non fatiguing standmount you have heard with Supernait 3 or above?
It depends on many things of course but I changed my excellent PMC 25.21 i for Spendor classic 4/5 , with dedicated stands, for a much more polite and laid back sound that never sounds fatiguing.
I use Supernait 3 with NDX2.
Not sure what musical means in this context, but best at playing music and certainly never fatiguing that Iāve heard is PMC MB2. Amp not Naim but higher than SN2. Some other members have MB2 with Naim amps.
(Some standmounts are big: Iām unaware of any members with the top of the range PMC BB5, which is also, however I believe there are some with ATC SCM50 or SCM100, the non-tower versions of which are all standmounts).
All transmission line speakers Iāve had, IMF TLS50ii, IMF RSPM and PMC EB1i before PMC MB2 (all floorstanders except the latter which is largest) have played music beautifully and none have been fatiguing, even with amps probably way āunderā SN2 in level.
Totem Acoustic Model 1 Signature
As what was said above it depends, but for what itās worth my Proac D2Rās sound wonderful with my SN3 driving them. Very musical and so much better than my previous speakers.
Plus 1 for the ProAc D2Rāsā¦ they will sound wonderful with your SN3!
For me, probably Sonus Faber Electa Amatot III
ProAc D2Rā¦ Or ProAc K1ā¦
Currently running dynaudio special 40s as my stand mount. Doing a good job. All personal choices.
Love my Atohm GT1 - less common French manufacturer but superb quality.
Sonus Faber Guarneri Memento powered by Naim 32.5/Hicap2/135s was utterly beguiling.
The successor Guarneri ushered in Sonus Faberās modern sound with much deeper bass but less beguiling musical magic to us.
Iāve had a few speakers with the SN3 such as (more than one model from some) from Harbeth, Dynaudio, Spendor, Sterling, Falcon etc. and last before I moved the SN3 on, a pair of Martens which I still have.
To your specific question, for me, without a doubt it would be the Spendor 2/3. They made lovely music, no fatigue.
Currently running Spendor 3/1ās with a SN3, great match, warmish but lots of detail and texture and suprisingly good low end.
Iām not really qualified to comment having never owned Naim. I did pick up on the non fatiguing part and this list comes nearest to my experience. For years I had systems with home made elements. Stupidly, I bought commercial speakers for the first time, without audition, to match redecoration. At the same time my employer turned the office into a call centre and I did not listen for years.
Circumstances changed and we heard Graham LS5/9s. In fact we listened five times before arranging to visit the factory with turntable and amp.
Suddenly I was listening eight or ten hours a day.
There is no definition of musical that I am aware of, but with a couple of exceptions, BBC style speakers tick the non fatiguing box (IMO of course).
I assume the new Dynaudio Contour Legacy with their 90dB sensitivity would be one of, if not the best sounding speakers to be driven by a SN3.
Update: just realized I completely missed the mark. The OP was wondering about standmounts for the SN3. Perhaps the Dynaudio Heritage Specials?
Kudos Titam T505 with a 300DR is the very definition of musical. Not fatiguing whatsoever for me but they do require proper positioning to ensure the sound is just right. No toe-in.
A SN3 has much more power than musical stand mounts require - such as Harbeth HP3/ESRs for instance. I now tend to be partial to IBLs but Harbeth are in general a good choice if I understand what you mean with musical. Iād be careful with pro-derived loudspeakers, recording engineers are not after musicality but after accuracy. One of my most revealing experience was a pair of original Rogers LS5/9. Iād avoid modern re-issues such as the Graham Audio, too āmonitorā. BBC-based designs are always a safe choice in my experience.
Best, M.
I think the term āmusicalā in this context is rather meaningless, and needs @Bake10 to clarify the intended meaning, as speakers themselves donāt create music but reproduce it on the command of the recording. To me a speakerās job is to play music well, and by definition that is any music regardless of type, therefore I have taken āāmost musicalā to be the best at reproducing all types of music Iāve heard through them.
Also unclear is the term āSN3 or aboveā, which to me doesnāt mean when powered specifically by SN3, but also anything better than SN3, which in Naim lineup could be any model further up the ranges, and potentially other brands parallel to those upper ranges though I assume primary interest is within Naim.
Also Dyn Special 40ās in combination with SN3 and NDX 2, very happy and no reason to change. Still best looking standmounts I have seen.
Dealer and I have had a long association must be 25 years.
They know my unchanging room and musical choices(acoustic jazz and early romantic chamber).
When I owned the SN3 with Kudos cable I often used to ask shall we change the Falcon LS3 on Solid Steel stands for different speakers.
The answer was always the same.Noā¦ā¦.Why?
