I download using the Qobuz app on the pc. I have had no problems at all downloading several hundred albums over the last couple of years, including the Callas box set. I know this doesn’t help but wanted to be clear that this is not a problem for all users.
Hoi Bert, I know you are an avid ‘record’ collector, goodness knows how many albums you have. Add to that the 160 new albums from yesterday, then the Maria Callas collection with its 39 ‘discs’ … my question is do you actually listen to them all, Surely you are a standout example of why a streaming service is so much better.
I just buy what I enjoyed when streaming from Tidal/Qobuz. This to me is better than the disappointment from a purchase that you regret a few tracks in.
Hi Mike you hit a sensitive point. Just looking at mathematics it will be difficult to hear everything even if I would listen for more hours a day then I do. I already had a great collection and kept on building on it. Why not just getting them on streaming - as the quality locally is still a bit better, and much more better in the case of high res, and to avoid that albums get excluded from the collection. Also supporting the fact that I have some special albums.
What I often do is that I dig deep in an artist and then I like to listen to 3-5 albums in one row.
So bottom line you are right, with some arguments on my side…, I keep telling myself that I will reduce my buying patterns, let’s see what happens.
I’ve had this argument with myself on numerous occasions (and I own nothing like the number of albums Bert has)! The only answers I can come up with are that I actually enjoy ‘ownership’ and the knowledge that, should the unthinkable happen and streaming from ‘outside’ become impossible, I could continue to enjoy my entire collection.
Reinstalled the app again and now praying that it will work flawless for the Callas box…
I bought the Callas box last year for under £10 when Qobuz got the price wrong. There is some brilliant stuff in there. If you download the pdf booklet you can extract the original covers and add them to the albums. It took me a few hours but was well worth it. And for £10 I couldn’t go wrong. I wonder how much it it this time.
I have the covers, and the price was this tim 85 eu os which is quite good in my eyes. An’t wait for th price to be wrong…
You’ve reminded me that I have yet to download this! Like you I bought the HiRes version for £10, but couldn’t face the downloading and sorting process involved with 65 hours worth of music!
As I have 6 weeks of enforced indolence approaching (hip replacement next Friday) it may be a good opportunity to explore Ms Callas’ recordings for the first time.
The downloading worked for me well. The tagging was a breeze as it was a well structured package.
Nay, they’ll have up and moving within hours - compulsory apparently for a good recovery
Best of luck with it.
Yello - Toy. The vinyl LP is now reduced to £13.55 on Amazon…
Up and walking same afternoon, out of hospital within 48 hours! How times change. The first 6 weeks at home will, between physio sessions, still give me plenty of music listening opportunity! The main downside is an absolute ban on driving for at least the first 6 weeks- until the surgeon specifically signs you off there is no insurance, apparently.
Plenty of time to listen to Hip-'op
Diverse Vinyl Summer Sale starts today…
Tons of good stuff!
I’m finding navigation of these offers a nightmare.
I still haven’t figured out where the new weekly offers appear, or do they end up in sections you’ve already perused. Perhaps to be expected but there are also oddities such as no discounts or the HiRes Sublime price having no discount of any kind but the standard HiRes does and is cheaper. Many HiRes titles are already discounted for Sublime subscribers normally but in many instances we only get an additional 1-2% off, with others like the Rush individual HiRes downloads it’s substantial (will probably bag quite a few for £4.99 each).
I think I added 60 or so to my basket, and printed that out - I’m now whittling the list right down as many I probably don’t even now and do not wish to take a gamble until I’ve listened on streaming - time is against me I suspect.
Indeed not easy to scan through. And indeed also confusing pricing where sometimes hires is cheaper then Sublime…, while this last problem is not a problem as you can select the price which you would like to apply for the album.
I always go through in batches. On the one hand my Naim library on the other hand the Qobuz thing. Then I make potentially interesting things to my favorite. And at some point in time I go through my favorite list and add them to the basket. Pretty straightforward, while the whole process is extremely time consuming given the mass of things they offer.
They tend to repeat the same albums in the next round as well…
