Muso gen 1 iradio completely disappeared

Hi my Muso Gen 1 no longer plays iradio stations completely. The firmware is updated to V2.1.10 and my IOS app is updated. However I cannot see nor stream any radio stations at all from the app. WiFi is working cos I can airplay music from devices.
What has happened and how to resolved? I have rebooted all my routers as well as Muso completely.

I suspect that it is trying to connect to a now non-existent radio station. If you select iradio in the app and tap on the “Now Playing” bar at the bottom of the screen in the app, what does the app say is happening? If it says something like “Connecting”, tap “Stop” or similar wording then close the now playing screen. You should see the new stations start to populate the screen. It can take a while to finish doing that.

If none of that works, then try a factory reset of your Muso gen 1. That will force it to start again. A factory reset won’t change the firmware back from where it is now.

I would also connect the muso by Ethernet cable temporarily if you are relying on WiFi.

Thanks so much David. I tried what you advise and the stations did load ! :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:

I tried all ways earlier and it didn’t but your method somehow did force back the stations being listed :+1::+1::+1:

Thanks so much again !!!

Oops spoke too soon. I select another radio station from iradio and now suddenly all stations disappeared again and I cannot get connected again.

Do you think I need to do a complete factory reset then?

Have you deleted all the saved stations? Just go to each one in the app and delete, so there are none there. Then stop it looking for the one it’s currently looking for as I described above and all should be ok.

Then you add back the stations you want saved one by one, by finding each one and tapping the heart icon in the now playing screen for each one.

Yes I have deleted everything and even did a factory reset. I can now access stations but none of them are playing continuously. There are a lot of bufferings and stop start. I have hard wired Ethernet to router as well and my internet bandwidth is really very high. I dont have this problem until lately :man_shrugging:

It’s likely that this is an issue in your Internet service providers network. Your high speed broadband is high between your house and their network, but how the network performs beyond that is nothing to do with your internet connection.

The Naim iradio service is just like an index and it tells your streamer where to look for your chosen station. So the traffic from different stations will likely be on all sorts of different routes. Also some iradio stations are happy by their nature because their server is busy on on a poor internet connection.

@Stevesky at Naim who is the iradio wizard has suggested that people with buffering issues should try playing from Naim’s own stations in Naim’s Choice, as Naim knows that all of those do perform properly and are actively managed. Beyond that, you may need to engage with Naim Support who can perhaps help you debug what is happening.

Thanks David. Indeed I did try Naim’s choices immediately. Again the streaming is not smooth. I tried other stations in UK and some did stream well enough unlike a lot of the US based stations. Really wonder what has caused this service degradation. Real inconvenience

You don’t need high bandwidth to stream internet radio. What you do need is low latency, but there’s not much you can do to control this as it depends largely on the radio stream server, your ISP and your geographical location.
Whether this is relevant to your problems is another matter. If it is, using a different ISP (maybe at a friend’s house) could be a useful test.

It’s not really a service in that sense. What Naim does is maintain an index which tells the streamer where to go on the internet to find each station. That part is working for you. Then the streamer accepts the stream from the selected station and plays it. If you have gaps in playback, then this is basically because the streamer has run out of bits to play and there is a gap until more bits arrive.

The old streamers, like the Muso gen 1 and the green screen streamers have very small buffers so this is more likely to happen than with the more recent and current products which have large buffers.

Hi Chris - you may be right. The latency is bad but this is only happened in the last few days. Not sure what has caused it. Still having the problem of getting a consistent iradio stream.

Hi David - yes the Gen 1 Muso is old but it was performing flawlessly until Naim launched the new iradio. Since then it’s not working as well. Not sure how to fix this properly. Many radio stations now has lots of latency or unable to play at all.

Hypothetically - a change behind the scenes made by your ISP, or use of a different server by a radio station, could affect latency. If the problem lay with the station, you would expect the problem to vary between stations.

Hi Chris / David - my iradio problem is still persistent. Both the Muso and the App is not working despite having done a full reset as well. I do not have issues with Apple Music, Spotify, Airplay etc. How do I get Naim to check such issues? I am living in South East Asia. The system has been really useless for more than a week now. Even Naim radio is not playing well.

Hi @Stevesky - I m having issues with internet radio the past one week. Even Naim radio is not smooth. Everything else work, just internet radio and sometimes it takes forever just to have the app list down the radio stations. I min south east Asia.

It seems you have started your own thread regarding these issues - best to move your post to that thread?

I’ve moved your post into your existing thread.

Hi @GL61

As this seems to be more an internet related issue may I suggest you raise s support ticket with our helpdesk. See:

Based on your country your device is using our EU, Paris based Amazon hosted server which is dealing with millions of transactions per day so I know that’s good - this forum would be on fire if it wasn’t. Also as station playback is dropping out which is a direct link from steamer and radio station server shows that it seems to be a generic issue.

Just as a few tips:

  • see if the fault occurs on local stations. Eg. Stations from national broadcaster Mediacorp.
  • if no try stations from Australia
  • if the fault seems to be more EU centric stations then this may just come down to a temporary infrastructure fault and once they repair it then the fault will go away.

Best

Steve

You have an Atom listed in your profile - does this suffer with iRadio issues?

Yes I am still having issues with iradio on Atom gen 1. After a 2 week vacation, I was hoping it be okay but looks like it still not performing. Naim has screwed up the iradio in my humble opinion. Not sure what can be done. Any advise
