Naim Chrome Bumper

From a wiki i found = Support for the FM switch off in the UK is limited. In July 2020, provided the stations also broadcast on digital radio, UK government has decided to allow Ofcom to renew analogue FM and AM licences for a further ten-year period

Nicely done.

2019…?

I assume no DIY discussion, but it is only for occasional use. When my Uniti comes back from Naim that will take over CD duty.

Congrats on joining the 160 BD club! Still have the bulgin power cable connector? Sean Jacobs can make up his Powerblack cable with one and it sounds a treat, just in case your cable is old and hanging on by a small piece of solder to tin like mine was.

service was done in 2019

Got yhe bulgin cable, so its ok
I am not nrw in the club as i have already one in my saloon, wonderfull amp.

Anyone compared bolt down NAC 32 to the common version in extruded case?

I think it’s fair to say that each new model has been an improvement on the previous equivalent.
I would possibly pick up some early bolt down kit just to see what it is like, but the best Naim sound? I doubt it.

Thanks bruss. Kresendo had one for sale a couple of months ago in exec condition but I was a bit low on HiFi funds.

I had both at one time - one a bolt down NAC32, the other a late NAC32.5. Unfortunately the NAC32.5 was not the best, even after a service. It was a staff build, and never quite performed as well as the many other Naim shoe-box pre-amps I had; a bit soft and overly sweet. Fine of you like that sort of thing, but lacked tension and excitement. My NAC42.5 and NAC62 were much more to my taste, and a second NAC32.5 was also much better. The bolt down NAC32 was quite similar to my NAC12, as you might expect, although the NAC12 edged it, perhaps because it was running with a modern ALPS Blue.

Question for the Chrome Bumper owners. Is it worth going from 160BD to 250BD or 135s?
Or stick with 160BD (I don’t do loud).

Thanks Richard. Very insightful. I wasn’t sure if it would’ve more like the 12 or the CB 32.

Do you (or anyone) think the 32 / 42 are voiced more for CB110 / 160 than the 32.5 / 42.5. I think the later preamps are more musical but do the original versions match better in terms of balance, assuming 80s LP12 and Linn Kan / Sara / Brik?
