Naim Chrome Bumper

Here is my early 12/120 combo. I’ll probably take them to my grave with me! :sunglasses:

They look like they’re in fine condition.

Any idea how the 220 compares to a BD160 or 110?

Nice rack btw - very unobtrusive

Never heard a “220” and haven’t compared the 120 to 160 or 110 either so can’t help you there.
Glad you like the rack though. Took me hours sorting it out.

Nac 22 was not at the same level, it was the entry level, became the Nac 42 .

Thanks - I meant the 120

I can tell - must have been expensive to get that level of unobtrusiveness.

Thanks for the info on the NAC22, gents. I have no memory of it at all.

I have a Nait50, but I have no idea if it can be configured to work as a preamp only.

I don’t suppose this is any better…

Or should I find room in here somewhere? :sunglasses:

I would describe that as ‘functional’

And always useful to have a milk pan above your system

Now that’s more like a typical Naimie!

They’re not connected Graham. The NAIT50 has come off music duties in my main system and so is just on display in my office along with my old NAP140. I suppose for good measure, I should get my NAIT1 out too.

I had an old vs new experience yesterday whilst picking up an interconnect cable from Cymbiosis. I hadn’t powered up my Nait 2 since having it serviced by Darran earlier this year and Wayne kindly hooked it up with a Rega cd player and a small pair of Kudos speakers. Sounded great considering the ‘cold start’ and, as there was a Nait 50 to hand, we were curious how the young gun would compare. Well there was definitely an improved/ fuller sound quality across the spectrum from the 50 but I came away thinking the little Nait 2 put on a good show and hopeful that with the benefit of some hours under its belt, things can only get better! Great fun and good to catch up with Wayne and Phil.

As I understand it, the NAIT50 is essentially a re-build of the original NAIT from 1973, with a few modern tweaks. So you’d rather expect it to sound similar to a NAIT2.

(I have one, but haven’t hooked it up yet to actually play music.)

Get it hooked up Graham

Mine blew me away I can tell you , a wonderful product from Naim

I’m waiting for Peter Swain (Cymbiosis) to deliver a brand new LP12, as I’d like to hear what it does with records first. I’ve got a second ARO, and Peter recommends an Audio Technica 760SLC cartridge for the NAIT, which are available to special order.

So I’m trying to be patient!

But you’re right, I should get everything else set up and ready.

Here’s a NAC22. It was fairly short lived and introduced in 1976 as a lower priced alternative to the NAC12. It was replaced by the NAC42 in 1979.

Tony, be careful of those tapes - I’m not sure you want them sat right above the NAP120 transformer for very long…

Thank you, Richard, I have no recollection of that at all.

I assume that you have one tucked away in a cupboard at home!

(Am I right in thinking that Naim had a preamp manufactured in Australia or New Zealand to avoid some swingeing Customs duty on imported electronic goods?)

Does the AT 760 cartridge have the 3 holes for the ARO head ?

I thought it had only 2 but I might be wrong
