Naim Chrome Bumper

I agree that there’s still something very desirable about the fluted Afro LP12

Too shabby for me, that one

Are these all yours Richard?

These Chrome Bumper units are the Naim Amplifiers that I drooled over in the HiFi store all those years ago, well out of my reach price wise but hearing them attached to a LP12 of the era was the spark that got me going, it has taken a while but now I have my Naim/LP12 setup albeit from todays line-up.

Great to see these amps and still being used.

This is the best looking for me…

The knobs on the other earlier two do not look right, more suited to some scientific apparatus.

Yup, all mine. It is a bit shabby this one. The fascia is the original and so, being of that age, the silver logo etc… has gone a shade of gold…

Likewise, well out of reach price-wise but hearing them attached to an LP12 of the era was music to my ears as is my XS+XS Flatcap + original 1983 LP12 (NOS Asak)

I’ve just noticed that the two circles on the logo on all three of those are not quite identical - the RH ones all have a break in the vertical line. Is this a fault or a feature which I’d never noticed before?

Mark

I was just kiddin’ - it looks perfect to me.

Which is your favourite and, the big question, what speakers would you pair with it?

It’s a feature of the logo. See the Olive logo here;

My favourite is a tough choice between the CB NAIT 2 and the early NAIT from '83. Right now I use the NAIT 2 in my bedroom with a pair of n-Sats, although typically just yesterday I noticed some distortion on the left channel so it may be time for another trip to Salisbury. Time flies, as it seems like only recently that it was there having a full rebuild, but of course it was well over 10 years ago now. I got out the NAITs to swap one of them in to the bedroom system, hence why I took the opportunity to photograph them all.

Worth it though

CB kit just fits perfectly with the Gales and has a sound that’s pretty much all I want or need.

Tears to my eyes Mr Tibbs seeing those Gales

My first ever naim system was 12s/snaps/160 with the Gales with LP12 /supex cartridge /grace 707 tonearm

I loved the Gales - the system was so good that some blighter stole the lot

I’ve had mine from new in the late 70s - couldn’t live without them now! Brilliant system you had back then. I had the LP12/Grace707/Supex but the Naim’s were just a step too far at the time.

Lovely.
What are the racks?

Thank you. The racks are DIY and made from some spare mahogany window frame that’s been lying in my workshop loft for 25 years.

Looks really nice.

And more classic Hi-Fi casework in addition to the CB amps.
