Naim Chrome Bumper

I’ve not got any CB kit, although my first proper amp was the very original Nait 1 CB more years ago that I care to remember.

I love the look and shoe box style, and thinking of keeping my eyes out for either a Nait of one of the pre/power amp combos as a second system. Not sure how these would work with a streaming set-up; any advice? What about speaker cable; would NAC A5 do the job?

It’s absolutely perfect for the job (and the only speaker cable I would personally recommend here) - minimum of 3.5m per channel, ideally more if you can.

Advice about a streamer to use with a CB setup? Anything should be fine. I have an AURALiC Aries Mini (Apple iOS only) in mine which has an internal SSD where all my music is stored. It also has its own volume which can be useful with getting more play out of the volume knob.

There are plenty of other options out there - depends on how much you want to spend.

Me, UQ2 with volume set at 75 feeding the aux port on my Nait 2.

Amp in the UQ is turned off.

I’ve been similarly tempted in recent months - I really like the retro style of CB and it seems you can get a pre-power combo for about the same GBP as they originally cost in the mid-80s which is a real inflation-buster!

Just need speakers, cable, a source… not much really

I have a NAP160 - just about to get its second service - must be about 40 years old - still sounds pretty good to me!

That’s an interesting mix of kit there :sunglasses:

Wahts your setup ? N272 + XPS + 160 ?

“System: N727, Roksan deck, old 250”
727 really ?

Sshhh, the 727 has’t been announced yet. :grinning: Looks like a classic Xerxes there, that takes me back.

Yes it’s an old Xerses (serviced and sounding good) with a 272 and power supply
The Roksan CD transport isn’t actually switched on as I use the Melco file server or just stream

Been after a Meridian CDP (pioneers of the evolution of the sound of CD reproduction) for a long time and I bagged this 506.20 over the weekend.

TeddyCap and Aries Mini hidden away. RP6 out of shot.

System compete.

Thought I would dig out my old kit and set it up in my man cave (otherwise known as the shed!)… and hooked up to my Mk1 Kans

Took the opportunity to take inside in case of any leakages … surprising what’s inside a Snaps and the 140.

I love the A&R Cambridge A60 / T21 setup too. I had that in my room when I was at university. Great memories.

OK, so if I were to get a 42/110 combo, or maybe a Nait 1 (to replace the one I sold all those years ago), how would I get it to interface with my music which is on a server and streamed from Tidal via Roon. I am running Sonore UPnP bridge.

Whatever the interfacing device is, it would attach to my network via Ethernet cable.

Maybe this has been covered to death already, if so is there a link to an appropriate discussion?

AURALiC Aries Mini is a neat solution (Apple iOS only though). Small and can be hidden away.

If you want something from Naim, any of their streamers will do it. With the UPnP bridge, you can look at the old generation models such as the NDX.

The A60 was purchased from new around 1982, and thoroughly enjoyed it with the Kans and LP12. Unfortunately it no longer works because of the quick blow fuses blowing…

@anon27418182 - lol, I thought that was baldyread! Anyway that would be the sort of thing but I don’t use Apple so might not work for me.

@ChrisSU, not wedded to it being Naim, but a DACV1 might connect direct to my server via USB - trouble is finding one as they seem to be difficult to pick up.

Other suggestions always welcome.
