Naim Chrome Bumper

I mentioned the streamers because you said you wanted something with a network connection. If your Roon Core has a USB output, then a USB DAC with a direct connection from it could be a good option, and you wouldn’t need the UPnP Bridge.

My Roon Core is the Audiostore Prestige which is also running Sonore bridge. It has USB outputs too, so that could be an option - will have to check with Audiostore if that will work - but it would open up most DAC options I think as well as network streamers.

Apologies to the Chrome Bumper people for going off message here!

Fire Brigade and Grand emporium… good stuff

I can’t see why that would be a problem into a V1, or there are lots of other USB DACs you could look at. Maybe a Chord Qutest if you want something compact.

Listening to a microRendu into V1 into a BD 160 (used to be a 110 until a couple of weeks ago). Sounds great to me. A V1 may make your 42 redundant though. I’ve never compared the two pre’s, but keep in mind you’d be going V1 pre to 42 pre, can’t bypass the preamp on the V1.

Nait 2 service time!

Uncharted territory for me this as I’ve never held on to one component long enough to require a service, so my chrome bumper Nait 2 is on its way to Darran at ClassA. Of late, a few issues have become much more prominent - crackly playback (and volume control), phono stage cutting in and out, and a flickering logo LED.

When I get it back I’m hoping to experiment a little more with the Nait2 as the hub of the system, use my UQ2 just as a streaming transport only for now, and my RP6 as the primary source. I’ll also compare the Nait’s internal phono stage with Rega’s Fono2. I’m really quite curious as to how it will sound with vinyl once fully restored - something I could never really do with the phono stage playing up.

There’s a gap in the rack and I don’t like it!

Just received my Nait 2 CB from Class A fully serviced and LED fixed.
Darran carried out a first class job on my Nait that was unserviced for 32 years.
I also use a UQ2 into the Nait 2 sounds superb :ok_hand:

I’m sorry Yeti but it’s gonna sound awful, better get Darren to send it straight to me snd I’ll ‘dispose’ of it for you

Seriously I bet it will be superb, just need to be patient now!

Ah, thanks HiFiman, that is reassuring!

What sort of run in time will be required before optimum sound quality returns, and did you notice a difference to the sound?

Also, how is your UQ2 configured? Assuming the internal amp is switched off (speakers=none), but what did you set the volume level to? Never really seemed to be one hundred percent certain as to the optimal setting.

Patience is the hard part!

I have to admit, that I have been pondering what to do with the little Nait over the last few months while its been powered down. How it performs with vinyl may help my decision making process as to whether I decide to keep it long term. The problem being that I have rather fallen for having a remote control again (and control app). Certainly looking forward to experimenting with it when it returns!

Sell and you will regret it later…

Unlike Naim power supplies Darran mentioned that the Nait won’t take long to come on song after the service. Mine has been powered up for 2 days now and to be fair sounds great from the start, seems to have a bit more bottom end too and of course as musical as ever :grinning:

Also the new caps will last 15 years.

On the UQ2 BT all inputs I don’t use are off, speaker setting to none and UQ volume set to 75.

Interconnect between UQ and Nait is the Flashback Phono/RCA Plugs - 5 Pin -
DIN Plug Premiere Cable.

Thanks HiFiman.

A little extra defined bass could be an interesting benefit as I’m using infinite baffle bookshelf speakers and they will never have the heftiest bass extension compared to ported boxes.

Ah, UQ2 volume set to 75? I thought it was 80 something, 84 for some reason? Could be wrong, but I seem to remember that number being mentioned on the old forum. Does it matter that much?

The two shoe boxes look great side by side! I personally think Naim are being a little short sighted by abandoning this much loved form for their amps and DACS.

Lovely - I love the look of the Meridian kit from that period. Still looks great and fits nicely with the CB kit. Enjoy :sunglasses:

Congratulations on the service! Give it a week or so to be at full swing.

Having used a variety of sources with my Nait 2 I have noticed that it’s very much the quality of the source that defines the output. Fed by a Naim DAC-V1 or a Linn LP12 bass (definition) is not a problem. Sounds like a mullet system perhaps but the Nait 2 is well capable of making it work.

what the speaker? allae?

Thats correct the Naim Allae. Very easy to drive and sound excellent on the end of the Nait 2 or UQ.

Previously (many years ago now UQ MK1) I set the UQ1 at vol 85 into a NAC152 but the older Nait 2 vol 75 is a nice balance without overloading the AUX input.

Ah fantastic, thanks for confirmation. I see, 75 it is then.

After seeing Richard Dane’s Arfo deck looking so good, I asked my dealer what Lemon Oil he uses and ordered Dunlop 65 Ultimate Lemon Oil. I’ve applied it quite sparingly and happy with the results…

Back on topic, one thing I hate about some CB systems is all the cabling everywhere - really gets me down!
