Naim Chrome Bumper

Not sure. The only way to know would be to do a side by side comparison. The seller was located quite near to me (twelve miles away) so I was tempted! But I only listen in a small room, so don’t really need a pre/power, although never say never etc… I thought that 62/140 pair would have sold for nearer £700, so the buyer will be getting a decent package (once serviced) for the outlay.

My first foray into Naim ownership was a 62/140 and I’ve always thought it was the sweet spot in the range (chrome & olive).

Similar here, albeit 72/140 in olive. Daughter uses it now with an olive HC.

Son has just " borrowed" my other 72/140. The 140 is original and 26 years old and sounds great. But will go to Darran this week.

Luckily they don’t like the look of my 282!

It sold pretty quickly.

I wonder if we will hear that somebody on here bought it. Despite what people think, the price was reasonable.

I suppose it’s open to debate - but had I purchased it, with exchange rate and shipping, it’d have been worth a compact 2nd hand vehicle in my country… no doubt more enjoyable mind, but a lot of money here.

Now the Goldring Karma is run in, gotta say what a nice little system it is, comprising Valhalla LP12/Ittok/Karma/42.5/110/Kan 1s. Nicely balanced in a small room. Anyone would think they were made for one another

Tried the 32.5/CB160 instead and, whilst it’s more musical, the balance is thrown slightly off and becomes too warm and soft for me. Top end is more refined with 42.5/110 too - hadn’t
noticed that until now. The 110 can struggle to keep the music together when driving some speakers at very low volume but seems happy enough with Kan 1s.

Using 323/5 cards and Kan 2 stands.

K20 speaker cable at the moment but might try to find some old NACA4 just to top it off

I almost had that combo. But only Asak/Asaka… never the Karma.
A SNAPS was added, then a 250 replaced the 110…

I’m guessing that was a few years ago now  happy days no doubt

I was going for an Asaka but then my dealer had an old Karma so just went for that.

Around 1985… Still have the LP12 involved…!

@Murmur, I bet that sounds great, close to an old main system I had. But 3 LP 12s!:grinning::grinning::grinning:
Re. speaker cables though, I had always thought that Linn K 20 and NAC A4 were almost the same cable!

Yeah, I think it’s very close but then a friend recently compared the two and preferred NACA4, adding that there was more difference they he expected. So, I’m just curious really

Could be termination or plugs

Or cable length - particularly with CB amps.

@PerF @Mr.Tibbs
Good points gents - I should have thought of them

My pile of Chrome-Bumper goodness on a pile of home-grown Fraim…
Just waiting to get my remaining two NAP 250s back from Darran…

That looks great @TimD. Can you talk us through the CB boxes you have and the story with the CB style Fraim?

Dan –

It’s basically a double tri-amp system, driving ‘Split’ Isobariks. ‘Split’ ‘Briks have two sets of inputs: one for the front-facing drivers and the other for the top and internal drivers. I’m also looking to do a dual-mono preamp (it’ll only cost me the price of the cable).

‘Split’ ‘Brik schematic:

Basically, each driver in the Isobariks gets its own stereo channel. Why? Because I can!!!

The ‘Fraim’ was built by me using 3D software. I then had the files sent for CNC cutting (shelves) and 3D printing (uprights). All the ironmongery was sourced from AliExpress.

Thanks Tim,

So you have a 6 pack of 250s each channel driving individual parts of your speakers.

Looks very well thought out, impressive and unique.

Well done! An aspirational CB system if there ever was one. And requires alot of dedication and detail in thought and planning.

Stunning!
