Naim Chrome Bumper

Just popped into my local record shop and he has a NAC12n red led and a NAP160 that he’d just bought. Not in the best looking condition and the volume pot need a bit of a spray. But once it was up and running through some cheap speakers and a rotel CD player my god did it sound fantastic. Just wish I’d had the cash to make him an offer. Probably would have taken £400 for them

You could double your money if he’s taking £400, and that’s after seller fees

NAC 12s are about £350 on ebay these days and that’s unserviced in mediocre shape.

160s seem to be about £600 under the same conditions.

A very nice looking Nait 2 available on a certain auction site if anybody is interested. Return available if you are unhappy. ‘Reasonable’ price.

I have no connection with the sale btw. Just making you folks aware of it.

925? Reasonable. Someone’s 'aving a larf.

I just wouldn’t spend that sort of money unless serviced using Naim components. There’s more thought goes into them than many people realise. Didn’t the likes of Exposure buy what Naim rejected back in the day?

Yep. Genuine or not at all for these classics. Saying that, I’d love to hear an AV Options Ultimate Nait 2 :+1:

Yes, likewise, I’d also like to hear an AV Options Nait2 as well.

‘Reasonable’ in that a serviced Nait 2 can go for over a £1000 now. That is the market. If you don’t like it, don’t buy a Nait 2. Maybe you are lucky to already have one.

Alternatively, a CB NAC62 / NAP140 (not serviced) just sold for £511 on the auction site. Seems a relative bargain in comparison.

Yes, I have a very nice Nait 2. No I wouldn’t buy one if I didn’t. I can buy the much better Nait XS2 for the same money. Nostalgia is a powerful force.

It looks very good. The guy has obviously spent aloy of time on it. If it was sent in to Class A it wouldn’t have taken so long, maybe a couple of hours.

It seems a fair bit to pay, but maybe that is the market value. I have a Nait 3 in a second system and paid around £300 for it. Is the Nait 2 so much better? Just asking for opinions out there.

It isn’t the market value, yet. The seller is flying a kite.

The Nait 2 is a beautiful thing and sweet sounding and powerful beyond its size. I shan’t be selling mine, but the newer Naits sound different and to my ears are better giving an uplift to everything. At 5-600 pounds the Nait 2 is a sound buy, at 1K it’s crazy.

Yep. An XS2 is lovely but a Nait 2 just reminds me of fun late teen times and not being able to afford one :grinning:

Indeed, I originally kept mine as it was, and still is, my first entry in to the crazy world of Naim. That and the Kans are still with me.

It sounds like he’s making a big fuss about it, spending weeks on it! So with an authorised service by Class A looking at £750 tops of Nait 2. And tbh you never get your full money back on service when selling on.

Not in the market for it. Just interested in rising markets and popularity of the unit.

The Nait2 in question is in lovely condition, but that’s high price. The market prices do seem to have risen of late, mostly, it seems, during the last two years or so - esp for original unmodified examples, but asking over 900 for a modified unit, I think the the seller is being optimistic.

This seems to have so many non-standard parts fitted that it’s hardly a Nait any more. It might sound great, but not something I’d want to take a punt on. No original box either.

I like the choice of the word " restoration ".
I’ll be interested to see if it sells.

Yes, agree completely. If it was mint & boxed with original manual etc, then the price isn’t too cheeky. Priced accordingly with mods, ie, three hundred pounds cheaper, then it would be worth taking the risk, but not at 900 notes. It is a classic and ideally should be kept so.

Correct. That combo for that money is a winner. I’m guessing it would sound way better than a nait2?
