Naim Fraim - is it worth it really?

Oh, I thought that is what you were buying with your recent windfall, my mistake.

It’s hard to keep up.

I’m buying the Clearaudio Master Innovation, the HRS EXR rack, some isolation base (TBD), and maybe a 3rd tonearm. Also a six-pack of REL S/510 subs (I already had a stereo pair). That took priority. I think I’ll get more benefit from that the upgrading my Naim 252/200 to a Boulder 1100 series system. The latter would be $50k-70k depending on amplifier choice, minus the sale of 252/300. The TT, rack, subs, etc upgrades will be about $40k.

I would love to do the Boulder, but I can’t do all of it. I need a bigger windfall. LOL

I did tell my dealer if they get a pair of Confidence C4 Platinum in on trade I’m interested.

Five shelves on a Fraim will likely look best, six is getting pretty high. Ideally the top of each item on the top shelf of each rack should be close to level.

You have a problem, seek help!:face_with_peeking_eye:

That’s true for the vast majority of the forum population here.

Have you seen my stable of bicycles?

Not yet, let’s see…

With the HRS EXR rack and the Clearaudio Master Innovation sitting on top, with a – say 3" – isolation base, the top of the platter will be 45" high. With a five shelf Fraim the top of that will be 35" high. But I just realized, it will have to be six shelves (at 41" high). I left the 300 head unit out of the first equation: 300PS, 300, SCDR, XPSDR, CA PSU + Terra, 252 or NDX2.

So, the HRS EXR with TT is 45" at top of platter, the Naim Fraim with 6 shelves is 41" at top.

Should have got a 552……

My main road bike is a hand-welded titanium frame custom bike, cost-no-object Moots Vamoots RCS. It’s about as much as a Solstice at retail. But I ride 100-150 miles week year round on it.

I have there others (backup road bike, gravel bike, steel single-speed), all custom builds but none more than half that cost.

I am certifiable, but you know, I have no kids and my financial advisor keeps saying I should spend my money or I’ll die with more money than I failed to live with.

Oh no, I really don’t want a 552. Much rather get a Boulder 1110. Besides I’m in the U.S. where 500 series are very expensive – even used – and based on what my dealer keeps griping about I have concerns that Focal Naim America is a mess.

Yes, sorry, I knew that, I just couldn’t resist pulling your leg :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I know, I’m dragging my system down without a 552, … and I need a 555PSDR for the NDX2 I rarely play. But here I sit, playing analog on my 252…and I still have the preamp lamps turned on, and the tape monitor out of lock mode…dragging it all down, like it’s an old Heathkit with flickering tubes. :stuck_out_tongue:

He is right, a few weeks ago a good friend of mine passed away at 54, sudden heart attack. He had his own business, big boat, 4 snowmobiles, Harley, you name it, he had it. Now his wife and 3 boys inherit all of it.

My wife and I have a family trust together. Everything goes to cancer research at Siteman Center in St. Louis, Mizzou’s vet school and various dog shelters and humane society.

I’ll be 67 next week, but this is why I cycle 100+ miles/week. I want to enjoy my retirement as long as I can.

Everyone is saying four or five, never six.

I don’t use Fraim, but did a search for the Naim Fraim User Manual (easy to find) and if you read this, it states a maximum of six.

Go with what Naim state, I’m sure they know better than the posters who use Fraim, but obviously don’t read the User Manual.

DG…

It’s also here in the FAQ:

I have two racks. Brain stack 5 but one tall shelf and rest standard.

Brawn stack is 6 standard.

Had 3 stacks of Fraim before which looked better but with bass trap in corner I can’t manage 3 stacks as well.

6 looks alright and is perfectly safe. I’ve got used to my set up in 2 stacks. Maybe I will move some things around. 3 stacks is difficult to cable dress due to limits of cable lengths with 3 stacks. But I did enjoy the set up. Was good having a few empty shelves too!

4 shelves looks puny @Bevo ! Get a 6 pack. :facepunch:

There’s no such thing as too many bicycles. Even if you can’t get to the one at the back of the room because of all the other bikes stacked in front, it really means you need a bigger storage room. Fortunately, I’ve managed to restrict myself to 4, but I feel I’ll need to get an e-MTB at some point soon or I’ll not have any friends to ride with.

And the Moots is such a nice bike :+1: - I’ve had a Litespeed Tellico since '96 - I only ride it once a year at the moment, but even so I can’t bear to get rid of it
