Hi all, I’m going to swap one of my interconnects for something better. It’s an unbranded 5 Pin Din to RCA cable. Amp is a Nait 5i so it can take Din or RCA.
Would I be better with a Naim grey cable(5 pin Din to RCA) or a similarly priced RCA to RCA cable?

It is very, very, VERY difficult to better the Lavender DIN5 at any sane price.
When I had the CDS1-which was their most engaging, exuberant source I have had from Naim, I literally spend thousands of $ trying to replace the free lavender, and every time I came back to it.
That $1100 handmade, hand-polished 0.5m pure silver cable I got in 1995 (that as the price in 1995 dollars too) was eventually sold for $150.
Yes, there are far more exotic alternatives from Chord et al. But the closest thing that Chord made to the lavender was the long discontinued Chrysalis, and to a lesser extent the Cobra.
The DIN5-RCA should also be better than RCA-RCA, everything else being equal.

My source doesn’t have din jacks. So it would be the Naim grey, would you still say go with the Naim given it would be din to RCA?

Absolutely agree. If you value musical integrity and communication above all else then I really wouldn’t look any further unless spending a lot more. And even then it’s not easy.
It would have to be the grey and not lavender as my source isn’t Naim and doesn’t have din jacks. Would what you’re saying still apply to a Naim grey RCA to 5 pin din cable?
yes.. the naim phono to din is very good, slightly dark sound to my ears but very rythmic.
The grey and lavender interconnects are the same thing. The name lavender simply comes from the slightly pinky grey colour. I used a Naim RCA to Din cable when I had a Rega turntable and it’s an excellent cable. And well priced too, at about £120.
I also returned to the Lavender after I got a HiLine.
In my 6-pack system the HiLine did not seem to offer any tangible benefits over the lavender and was prone to spontaneous self-destruction. It did come in a nice biscuit tin though.
I ended up giving away the Hiline.

Early in my Naim journey I realised that the Naim grey / lavender cable supplied is the external wiring extension of the wires inside the Naim box. I do believe no one has dared to rewire inside a Naim box -so why go and interfere with Naim’s carefully specified interconnects.

Beware of its fragility though… see the discussion here. I also expected it to be a no-brainer choice for connecting a non-Naim source to a Naim amp, however there have been some bumps on the way (not only for me).
if you can find a second hand one I would try one FlashBack Sales (Din), but also Mogami, all im use with my nait 5i .
