Naïm Headline connect with Uniti Nova

Hi I have the Naim Headline and want to connect to my Uniti Nova.

I tried the cinch connectors at the Pre- amp output. The problem is that I can not use the volume control in a right way. The master volume can not be on mute. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, as you’ve found, you only have the pre-out to use on the Nova. Normally you’d use a Naim preamp / integrated to feed a signal to the Headline and these provide an output (the out on the in/out capable DIN5 sockets). This is fixed and independent of volume control and mute settings.

Without unplugging the speakers, you don’t have a lot of other options.

Thanks! I have the DIN sockets on the Nova. Do they have a different output. Is pre-out not the same as Pre-Amp out?

Yes, you have inputs on the Nova via DIN5 sockets, but these do not have an output capability so a no go with the Headline.

By pre-out I meant preamp output (as it’s labelled on the Nova)

Oké thanks but I’m a bit confused. This is DIN output isn’t it?

Yes, it is a a DIN4 socket, but it’s still your pre-amp output so you run into the same issues as using the RCA (cinch) sockets, in that it is not independent of the volume control, mute function.

As I mentioned further up the preamps and integrated amps have sockets (tape, av, aux1) which provide inputs and outputs which can be used to connect a Headline to. Unfortunately, the Nova does not have this capability so you’re left with the preamp output and the limitations you’ve already found using this approach.

Edit - this may help explain things

There is no way to do this other than unplugging the speakers. But the headphone amp on the Nova is pretty good anyway.

Oké everything clear to me now thank you.

Pitty I can’t use the headline anymore. My headphones sounds less direct trough the Nova :frowning:
