Hi all,
Update on the state of the radio system:
Metadata
For those on 3.12 you may of observed that the product front panel now gives track level artwork on various stations. This will be also rolled out on new classic series products shortly. This update also gives superior metadata showing in the apps as well.
We have also been working on improving metadata and getting more structured data for this, so we really know what is playing and can start to correlate it to other services.
BBC, UK - on stations like BBC Radio 6 Music the quality and reliability of track level metadata has been improving in the last week, and it should continue to improve over June. Also observe that show data is now shown.
Radio Swisse, Switzerland
The engine is also being trained on their full network of stations. So for most tracks should be full metadata showing. Again we are encouraging it to get better based on an ever increasing dataset that it gets to process.
Radio Caroline - this is one of the UK stations which is being used to train the meta engine. It’s a tough one as they don’t have a clean metadata feed from the studio. We’re at around 85% accurate hit rate…. a bit more work to be done there, but becoming quite usable now ![]()
New Promoted Stations
Soma FM and Radio Paradise will be appearing on the home screen of the radio directory in the next few days.
Metadata is wired in for both, although due to the niche content that Soma play that’s a stretched goal to train the meta engine to handle that and get >95% hit rate.
Keeping stations running
Last few months a lot of stations have changed URL for their streams. We’ve corrected over 700 stations. Overall, it’s all in a healthy state.
Backend servers
The switch over of one the backend servers was successful and hopefully no customers will of noticed this. We have no planned server work over June.
Best regards
Steve
