Naim NAC 112/NAP 150 plus FlatCap 2

Hello people.
I Have 112/150 combo, with my lovely Tannoy Cheviot HPD315A, and recently i bought a Flatcap 2.
What SNAIC cable I need to connect it, and I also have Naim PHONO N preamp with original Naim iSupply.
It is better to connect Phono in Flatcap, or leave it on original power?
And, if someone have experience with this combo and flatcap2, what can I expect in sound resolution and character?
So many questions
Thank You

The Flatcap 2 originally came with a 5 pin SNAIC. If that is missing that is what you will need to get.

The 5 pin SNAIC plugs into the Flatcap 2 (to power the NAC and get the source signal to the unit) and then the 4 pin goes to the NAP from the Flatcap 2.

It will sound better if you get the orientation of the cables fitted correctly.

I would try a SNAIC 5 to the Stageline and 4 pin to 5 pin interconnect from the flatcap to the NAC either from the stageline or from the Flatcap it does not make much difference in my experience. The isupply is OK but the flatcap should improve on it.

The 112/150 combo will have a SNAIC4 connecting them so you should have a SNAIC4 already. If the FC2 didn’t come with a SNAIC5 then you’ll need one of those.

Did you get the manual for the pre? They are findable on the net, but not anymore from Naim directly.

Be sure to power down before making or breaking connections.

The option to power the stageline from the powered AUX2 socket is worth exploring once you have the FC2 sorted out. The second power output of the FC2 is 22V instead of 24V and aimed at a CD5. Compare using that to AUX power or the isupply for the stageline. Opinions vary, except I think where the isupply is concerned.

The Flatcap comes with a Snaic 5, not 4.

Oops You are right. I will change my post. I don’t know why I transposed the cable types as it is just like that on my setup, but with a different NAC and a Hicap, the cables are the same. Oh well.

Seller send me this pics, and what I get in package. Is this ok Snaic?

That’s a SNAIC5 so you’re all sorted to connect everything up.

Worth having a read of this which maybe useful in the future for cable identification

Yes, that’s exactly right; Flatcap, mains lead, Snaic5.

I need another Snaic DIN 4 to DIN 5 to connect power from flatcap 2 to stageline N?

If you already have a 4 to 5 pin interconnect because you are using and iSupply power supply you can continue to use that.

The choice you have is that because signal is coming from the Stageline to the Flatcap via the SNAIC 5 you can (as the manuals suggest) then use the 4 to 5 pin to connect to the output side of the Flatcap 2 (output socket D) then to the NAC. It is also possible to connect the Stageline to the NAC via the 4 pin output socket on it to the NAC.

It’s your choice and may depend on what is more convenient cable wise. In my experience either method is OK and does not make any differnce to the sound. In theory going via the Stageline may be better as this is a shorter signal path as connecting via the Flatcap for signal doubles the length the signal travels but as I say it does not make a difference to my ear.

Thank You!

I have one cable with a four pin at one end and a 5 pin at the other.

I believe I have just the flatcap from the olive series. They have a different layout from the 2. I can’t get it to work the way it was presented for the wiring diagram.

Olive slimline FC will only power one item.

No it is not the same. The Olive flatcap can only power one device. It does not have a twin output like the Flatcap-2 or XS.

You can power a preamp with it or a CD player or stageline etc. but only one of them.

Why does it have all the inputs then?

The Flatcap has a single 2x24V DC power output on a DIN5 and three stereo signal outs on DIN4s.

It does n’t, it is as Richard says above.

If you connect up a Preamp to the flatcap (powering it via the 5 pin snaic) you can then connect a power amp or multiple power amps to the 4 pin outputs.

My first Naim pre amplifier / power amplifier was the 112x/150x. Sadly I caught a virus called upgraditus, the flatcap came, then 112x became a 202, the 150x, became a 200. My latest upgrades were a 250DR and a 282 both at the same time, with unNaimed power supplies. Other upgrades have followed, sources have changed and I have a Naim Fraim to place every thing on. It just keeps getting better! Next year I will probably spend some money on a liquid solution based record cleaner.
