Hi Beagle, welcome to the Naim Forum. There are many dedicated and knowledgeable users here, and you will find lots of helpful tips. Enjoy!
Bevo has already mentioned the main thread on the Nait50 above. You can use the search function at the top right to search for specific speakers within the thread. In addition, there is a specific thread on ‘Naim Nait 50 Speaker’ with numerous examples and experiences (Click here). Ultimately, it is important that you like the speakers and that they interact well with your room. The best way to achieve a long-term satisfactory result is always to have a home demo (borrow your favourites from your dealer). Good luck!
The N50 can handle any speakers.
So let your imagination and your ears run wild.
Go listen (with your N50).
I use Harbeth P3ESR , tastes are acoustic, jazz, classical chamber and guitar, plus spoken word.
If I was starting afresh LS3/5A
Totem have some keen users on this forum
AlChris Audio TX-1 or TX-5. British made in a shed in West Yorkshire. World beating sound quality.
I use TX-9s and ATC SCM11’s with my NN50’s.
@Beagle1859
Many users have paired their NN50 with ATCs, PMCs, Neat Petites, Kudos, Dynaudio, Harbeth with excellent results.
Find a dealer or two that stocks most of them and listen for yourself (with your music) and check which one accomplishes your requirements.
I think that is the best thing you can do to avoid future regrets.
Cheers.
Several have used Russel K speakers. They seem to gel well with the N50 transient response and produce superb results. I currently use the Red 50s. (I also use the LS3/5a, but the RK50 are more entertaining across a wider range of production styles)
Hey Beagle, as @badlyread says, I have Guru’s, given the size of the room I would recommend the Q10’s over the 12’s in that setting, the 12’s could be too much. I’ve got mine now in the cabin as opposed to main room and they fire down a 6m by 4m space, in my main room they fired across a room of the same sort of dimensions but cabin is wood and house is brick.
In the 12’s place I now have Neat Petite Classics, just like @Bevo.
So a good selection from Guru Q10s, the 8’s and the Petites, all speakers that just make you want to play more and more tunes, all with excellent timing, coherance and vocals that soar.
Using Q10. Work with NN50 beautifully. About to move house and likely going in a smaller room which will be interesting.
Nice that someone else has a pair. Erik upgraded my mk1’s to latest spec when I ordered my 12’s, so good as new, fabulous speakers. Although I kinda miss the little blue led blinking away as you push em a bit hard, disconnected as part of the upgrade to the crossover/driver array.
The Q10’s cope well in smaller areas, very flexible. Good luck!
It’s interesting my serviced late Nait 2 would often make the blue light flash. The Nait 50 rarely except last night when I discovered ‘lost vinyl’ in garage & could not resist a bit of AC/DC ‘if you want blood….’ ![]()
Welcome Beagle!
Back in the 1990’s I found that my Nait 1 and Nait 2 had a nice synergy with quality British bookshelf speakers like the Rogers LS3/5A and Harbeth HLP3ES. They also sounded quite good with the original Linn Kan. I still have my Nait 2 and like how it synergizes with my Linn Kan I and KEF Reference Series Model 101 bookshelf speakers. These KEF’s were the company’s answer to the LS3/5A back in the early 1980’s.
They also have red LED indicators to tell you when your amplifier is clipping. I’ve only tripped the red LED on one of these speakers and it was when I was listening to it at high volume with a 25 wpc Quicksilver Minimite tube monoblock amplifier.
As for the aforementioned speakers, I know that they cost significantly less than you’re looking to spend, but they are quite nice sounding with an excellent source and amplification. I just ordered a new Nait 50 and should be receiving it over the next day or two. I’d be happy to post how the Nait 50 sounds with the Linn Kan and KEF Reference Series model 101.
Update: I just received my Nait 50 today and putting it through its paces.
Thus far I’m very impressed! ![]()
I agree about Neats - they go well with Naim.
I use the Motive SX1 speakers with a XS 2, 70 watts/ch.
I dont know if a Nait 50 has enough power for the SX1s though.
Don’t worry 3401
The Nait 50 will drive them well albeit what is your room dimensions ?
One of the best Naim products I have purchased in 45 years - it’s a cracker
Another vote for Neats.
UPDATE: I’ve had my Nait 50 for the past few weeks and have been trying it out with a few different bookshelf speakers. I’ve found my Linn Kan I’s to be a surprisingly good match with the NN50, which really makes them sing with quality acoustic recordings (mostly piano, guitar, violin and cello). As such, they have become part of a simple streaming audio system in my den that resembles the Linn Naim system I first heard 40 years ago at a local boutique audio store. A Linn LP12/ Nait 1/Linn Kan I’s on bar stools, no less. lol
I find myself listening to music through this charming little system into the wee hours of the morning, and enjoying it more than I ever thought I would. ![]()
On a different topic, I had been trying to find a new pair of Neat Iota Alphas here in the U.S. but it appears that they no longer have a dealer network in this country. With the Iota Alpha 2’s debuting in April of 2026 I wonder if Neat Acoustics will try to establish a new dealer network here?
Earlier…
Regarding the NN50’s power, I just switched to using the Nait50 to drive my KEF Reference Series Model 101’s (KEFs version of the LS3/5A) which are about 82db @ 1 watt. And the NN50 does so easily (and with a level of refinement that exceeds that of my Naim Nait 2 - which I still own and really enjoy).
The NN50 is a wonderful little amplifier and IMHO a true bargain for the $1899 that some audio retailers are selling it for.
