I hope it’s okay with a link to a review of the Naim Uniti Nova Power Edition?
The reviewer seemed to rather like it.
Sadly, he didn’t realise just how bad class D amplification really is…….
How many recent class D amps have you heard?
I’m assuming that the comment was tongue in cheek, hence the dots. I have Class D amps and the sound is excellent.
I missed the tongue in cheek nature of the post. I also have a Class D amp, and fully agree the sound is excellent.
Has anyone here compared the standard Nova against the PE? The one person I know who has felt the standard one sounded slightly better, but did concede that if you wanted to listen at “studio level” volumes (their words), then the PE was better.
I have heard the C102 into ATC SCM40s, and I was surprised at how good it was, so I am sure a Class D amp can and often does sound good.
I would say that NOVA PE is slightly more transparent than NOVA.
Well, at least one person recognised it for what it was supposed to be.
I recently had an email from Naomi referencing the Nova PE. It was the first time I can recall them making a specific ‘sales pitch’ to UK customers. I couldn’t help wonder if favourable reviews from various foreign publications/websites had convinced them that class D amplification was more than acceptable & likely to convince previous sceptics that their views/opinions no longer stand up to scrutiny.
I therefore wonder if this will be a way forward for Naim & may be evidenced in new products such as a Supernait 4?
Perhaps this will be mentioned/discussed at the Beta group visit next week?
The only review I have seen comparing the two was on a foreign website about a year ago.
The reviewers conclusion was that the PE was the better sounding amp but not by enough to justify the large cost of changing/upgrading for existing Nova users.
I’ve not heard from Naomi. Clearly I am missing out!
She’s a lovely girl. Hopefully, you’ll meet her next week.
Now corrected.
Class d has arrived at naim (nova pe, ci series, mu so), and will only grow further. Get used to it.
Class D arrived at Naim a long time before them, first with the n-Vi and then the 1st Naim for Bentley amplifier. It’s great where high efficiency or lots of power with little space is needed.
A bit surprising for me, I’ve heard some Class D amplifiers lately and found them all to be rather grey, lacking in timbre and dynamic - if transparency can improve A/B ? maybe there’s hope ?.
I’ve not heard Nova PE, I hope your right which for some, might justify the huge price tag PE over Nova has.
If Class D is a cheaper way of manufacture, you may be right.
Doubt a NC Supernait is in the cards, maybe Naim no longer apply to integrated amplifiers ?
Personally I’d never buy any Class D amp, not for $1k nor $10k.
Smash those looms!
That sounds like rooted prejudice - what if there was one that sounded better than any other amp you’ve heard, and less expensive?
Well, no good ever came of those wheel thingies……

Like another poster, you have totally missed the ‘tongue in cheek’ nature of my comment.
When the PE was first introduced this forum was almost completely against it due to the class D amplification. It would sound awful.
Of course, at that point, no one had actually heard it……
Well, I’ve actually listened to it against a fully loaded Linn Select DSM Edition, dual Organik’s, dual power amps, and, as I told my (disappointed) dealer, if I’d walked in off the street with my chequebook open, I’d have gone for the Nova PE….. for less than half the money!
There you are then, of course just my opinion on a fairly brief, one off listen.
