Nait 1 serviced (or not)

Certainly right

I emailed Naim support a couple of years ago to try and find out if my circa 1983 Nait had ever been back to Salisbury for service.

I was told that due to it’s age, Naim didn’t keep records. Didn’t seem ā€œquite rightā€ but I didn’t push it.

Darran was able to quickly confirm that it hadn’t been to him for service or repair

They probably no longer have the original build info on easily accessible computer record but if it had been back to Naim for a service in more recent years that should still be recorded AFAIK.

I’d have thought so but apparently not.

That’s a shame. Maybe they can no longer run the old system?

Looks like it.

This is the reply I received…not a big problem.

Yeah, that doesn’t seem right. I recently enquired as to whether my 1983 Nait had ever been serviced at Naim HQ and got the following:

Later found out that it was serviced by Darran in 2018.

Neil, where do I do this enquiry?

Hi @AndersI

The screenshot above was from support@naimaudio.com. If you want to contact Darran @ Class A then it is service@classaaudio.co.uk.

If you want the Nait serviced then I would send it to Darran in Sheffield. He will be both cheaper and quicker. Does a top job as well.

Seeing those Roe maroon caps and one will know it hadn’t officially serviced.

One thing that is mildly intresting, is that whilst Class A are the only UK official independent service place for naim gear, salisbury have no direct access to what gear is serviced at Class A. Thus, you need to send an email to Salisbury and Sheffield. Hardly the end of the world, but if it were me, id like to see what my official service agent(s) are working on. Not least, it helps to inform me,as designer, what items are needing service, and how often.

Bear in mind that Class A purchase their service kits of parts from Naim, so fairly easy to see what and how many of any particular model are being serviced.

Ah yes, I understand that too. But they dont know which item, I.e. s/n is being worked on. Given the obvious control ( and righly so) that naim exercise, im surprised they dont demand s/n as well. This would give them the full picture ( and data) of what is done to each of their items.

So what would it cost to service a Nait 1 at Naim?

Talk to your dealer for a price.

Naim Nait 2 2020 £250 full service

Inflation calculator says £326 in 2026. Rounding it up to £350 or £400 to give more leeway for certain inaccuracies of these calculators?

Sub £200 at Class A and Darran does exactly the same job!

There’s a pricelist in here somewhere, at least I’ve seen it a couple of months back.

If there’s repair neccesary, you risk a double charge.

I’d go for Darran at Class A, outside UK its a bit problematic me guess.

I’ve asked my distributor (inside EU) last year for a service/repair of UQ1 and it would be more than item was worth really.

Nait could be an easier go hopefully.
