Don’t feed the Dunc…
Getting people’s backs up really?
You for some reason are trying to talk down naims new gear, when really it should be you talking it up, and maybe me as the outsider talking it down.
Strange.
Look, I don’t have a 552 500 DR system but I have heard it and it’s a big improvement on what I have.
I have heard better but they were Silabtone amps costing £160k.
There is better out there. But to say 552 500DR is really noisy is lame.
Show respect on this forum. People are very sensitive and have spent serious money and then to hear it sounds poor will really piss people off.
I am here for the 552 500 non DR amd DR system boys.
Show respect. Or if you don’t like Naim go to another forum. @Dunc you don’t have any Naim kit anyhow. Where is your allegiance?
Gazza come on it was never dCS v the 500dr & 552dr. The dCS needs an amp to start with
But the 552/500 as on the floor and you said it was crap at the time versus whatever you were playing with.
But it is noisy compared to the new stuff that’s the point.
That’s the hole point, it’s the main reason it sounds better.
Noise is what every hifi manufacturer is fighting with to get rid off or get as low as they can.
It’s why you as a naim guy buy power supplies and why in the past they offered different ones, as the better ones gave off less Noise.
The same reason some go for 2 power supplies on the nd555 to lower the Noise floor so you get to hear more off the actual music.
Think i was comparing against an old vitus sia025 at the time, and both had their strengths, but in the end it was the heat the vitus gave off that put me off.
It did sound rather nice plus you could cook on it after several hours. Lol
@Dunc, you must realise that your choice of words is going to jar with a lot of people on here? Slating the 500 series is to slate pretty much every posters system other than the few that have transitioned to NC.
I personally welcome the insight you bring on life outside of Naim but you could talk up Vitus without the Naim trashing. I can think of a few Naimites who’ve listened to Vitus and were left unimpressed but they don’t labour the point over and over. You clearly love the sound and all power to you for assembling such an impressive system that works so well for you.
But that low noise floor does not necessarily mean everyone will find it more enjoyable. The Japanese have been masters of the best technical specs, but have not been to everyones taste….like mine.
I haven’t as yet as most haven’t including dan.
But i have spoken to 2 that have today, and like i said they felt it was very good, and they both have 500 gear.
But i will get to hear it soon as just waiting for it to truly burn in a bit more
I am not stating naim i am actually doing the opposite.
Vitus, dcs, whatever has nothing to do with anything, and it just you guy’s bringing that up, not sure why, maybe to try and get this deleted.
The 500 kit isn’t crap, and certainly never has been, i certainly wouldn’t have owned it for years if i thought that.
But you can’t really argue that’s its an old design, one that has done very well over the years.
But a new design is now out, one that has taken development from the statement, that’s fantastic news and can only be good news for naim.
Obviously it’s going to rattle a few owners as things like this does for many reasons, but the bottom line is, its great kit that’s pushing naim forward by big leaps.
You can’t bring new kit out that’s only the same etc, it’s always got to be better as no one is going to buy it. If doing so they have just pushed past the 500 series with the new 300 kit then that’s fantastic news really and only boads well for the new 500 gear.
“don’t think a 552dr and 500dr is going to live with the new kit at all.
Its so old, its so noisy and really quite lacking once you start to compare to other kit.” @Dunc
Don’t think you’re gonna get out of saying this somehow Dunc. You said it. And now deal with the backlash.
I would be mortified if I was a 552DR and 500DR owner.
Is your set up so much better? You are basically saying it sounds crap.
If it is well done sir. But I try not to upset people too much. Yes, speak your mind and all. But to me 552DR and 500DR sounds pretty damned amazing and is still a system to aspire to.
The 500 kit isn’t crap, and certainly never has been, you certainly wouldn’t have owned it for years if you thought that. I vaguely remember you saying it was better than Vitus in the past and more integrated.
I really don’t get why people need to slag off other people’s systems. Maybe it makes you feel better about yourself?
Maybe try to get your posts deleted somehow?
I don’t want to try and get out off saying it, thanks.
I totally stand by it, and i am sure naim themselves will be saying how much quieter the kit is by design.
I’m not slagging off other people’s kit.
But the fact is the new kit is going to be superior to the outgoing kit 100%.
Can’t see why you are getting so upset, really.
Also i am very happy thanks and certainly don’t get anything from posting
Really easy to fit a new display screen. Why no Tidal streaming? Should work fine
Look Dunc, you made it out to sound terrible. Maybe reread your post. You are not someone who apologies or backs down. But you are incredibly harsh and offensive. Maybe take the point on board and we can all move forwards? I am not the only one who has said this.
The NC 300 series is priced around 50% lower than the 500. Of course it should be an improvement on the Classic 300, but I don’t get the assumption that it should beat the 500 as well. That’s a stretch to my mind. But if it does then all credit to Naim, it’s a staggering achievement.
I am a guy that says it how it is and that will never change. I also admit i don’t get thing’s right every time, like no one does. I also admit when i am wrong.
If i rub some up the wrong way then i can only say it’s not my intention to do so. I am i believe a very nice bloke.lol.
Anyway hopefully we both can agree on this.
I wish naim all the best with it’s new ranges.
Ps let’s just leave it, plus i am off to have a beer and listen to some music before i have to start thinking about work, errr.
Cheers dunc
