ND555 at Olive System

If you buy and listen mostly to new vinyls, which are hires transfer on lp, then I understand easily that you prefer your Nd555.
But do you still prefer the streamer vs P10 for true analog lps from the 60’s or 70’s?
Then don’t forget that the P10 can handle much better cartridges than the Apheta.

I (have) still preferred new vinyl (which 8 bought a lot) over nd5xs2…
But with nd555 i must admit, it is a different ball game.
Just compared new album from daughter (damn good) … and I am a bit sad. Nd555 is really better… :frowning:
Old vinyl is by far better than new one - totally agree.

For new vinyl, recorded nowadays, I prefer my Nds/Melco/PhoenixNet. A bit more dynamic and weighty.
But with lps albums from the 70’s, I much prefer the P10/Kleos/ Ear 912 phono. It’s more open, more textured and much livelier.

For me it varies. It doesn’t matter if it is recorded now or 50 years ago. Sometimes I prefer vinyl and sometimes the NDS.

I think I came down Similar road.
Never have thought that - my TT was better with every record, when compared to the streamer (which is also 10k - nd5xs2-nDAC-XPs).
Till the das before yesterday…
Just had a record, where I preferred the vinyl …

Also my ears need to adept - my brain must get used to processing all the information

Overall nd555 is more lively and dynamic and TT more „fully“

Had never heard of Daughter, so had a listen based on this thread. Certainly shows off a system’s capabilities.

Stereo Mind Game is excellent, other than the completely pointless track 01!

Day 3…
Thought about re-stacking to final position.

Had some „all in the mind moments“ yesterday, which made me hesitate, if it is a good idea, to test the DAC-555ps against ND555 against DAC-oliveXps.
Hifi-dilemmas  hifi-psychology…
My fault is the A to B mania instead of letting it run for a week and change afterwards and see if you want to go back.
When going A to B you are lost in a bit. As me yesterday, when I found the nd555 to be to light footed on bass and suddenly loved the other streamer more. Later in the evening I was afraid of the volume (neighbors) as a full bass was coming out of nd555… was flying over cuckoos nest.

Let’s assume (really think it is) the 555ps betters the olive xps.
But even when it keeps the bit „earthy“ sound spectrum of the nDAC (me feelings only) … changing 555ps between nDAC and nd555 will not be so easily Be done…

But can do it stepwise … first 555ps on DAC and then final stacking…
Damn … first world problems

It’s all getting very nuanced these days, old vinyl, new vinyl, analogue mastering, digital mastering…………I do wonder whether good old fashioned personal preference ever comes into it :slightly_smiling_face:

These nuances are all about personal preference I think

Then I hope the consolidated stack brings as much pleasure in your new listening environment as the old system previously

Could not resist … documentary to come …

You can easily do A to B testing with the nd555 as long as you have enough power supplies.
As the nd555 completely downloads the track and stores it in its buffer, so you can play the track and before it ends pause it, and then just play from the beginning again without the ethernet cable connection, this you can plug into your other device and play the same track live.
You just then need to switch between inputs on the pre whilst you play both tracks simultaneously, very easy then to hear differences, and no hiding or fooling yourself one is better than the other.

What’s this about?

It is an extreme but probably temporary downsize. I’ve done a Hungry Halibut and have gone for a Nova.

But I have my eye on a 200 New Classic.

if the … is at the fan…

Its running in summer, when AVR gets hot - have it positioned near AVR

Thanks - but I do only have one 555PS

Lets go forward.

listened A / B
ND555 vs ND5XS2/nDAC/555PSDR

A Wonderfull song! Musee Mechanique - The man who sleeps! A must hear!

  • The 555PS is a big uplift to NDAC
  • nDAC still has its earthy sound - but a bit more detail and definition.
  • This is as good as it gets with nDAC!

it is difficult now…

  • ND555 is more “silky” - compared to the more “earthy” sound the nDAC
  • ND555 is better with voices - more emotion in it
  • More overall detail
  • more dynamic and transparency

BUT … both is very high level.
Still a bit undecided.
Think because of its need of adapting ears to the slightly different presentation of ND555.

But slap very think, that I will miss this new high end listening…

That is quite extreme, I’d followed your system building exploits for a while and the result was quite impressive

Hope the plans work out, I’ll watch with interest

Had done it and broke my back again … no - but it hurts.
I was totally in cable dressing mania.
All went fine - except one glass shelf slipping from a ball. But glass and naim box fine.
Cable dressing is a real nightmare …
The ones I freared most - 555 burndys went very well. They were a bit on torsional stress before - fixed that.
Duration … 9 hours…
First impression - all cold… :0(
But thought the nd555 to be much warmer… lol … all in the head…

Will do this snake of Clearway cable the next days…
