ND555 at Olive System

No - please stop :grinning:
And hdx … do Not grow it 555 ps does have an effect on the server unit. AFAIK in hdx there is smps and lps integrated.

The melco ssd certainly sound different to the melco hdd.
The ssd have a slightly more laid back sound, compared to a more forward sound.
So getting the right one really does matter, for me as my digital got better and better again, i have found that i have switched back to the newer ssd melco models over the N10.
It just sounds more real to me.

There are some bargains to be had right now with melco’s, as dealers are moving over to the new N1, and N5 to replace the top n1zs, and n10 models.
So you can find the out going top model, the n1zs ssd model at half price, thats a nice £5k saving, plus these have not long been updated, and are much better than the previous one.
These are not far away from the new N1 as far as sound goes, but a massive saving, and certainly a bargain compared to the new model.

I already had a fine deal …
N10/2 h50 hdd model. Compared to the hdx it was more laid back … but hard to say … some songs others not.
Melco was to clean for me… do Not think that any further models will bring my current system forward.
But I’m am still stunned how good it was.

Well you can only try, you have and it’s not for you in your system, result as money saved.

Currently getting very used to powerline… thinking about getting the nap135 a try with powerline… :grinning:

Hi @drago,

I recently upgraded my speakers to Sopra 2 and went from 82 to 52. I got one powerline to start with which is on my mains block. And when I got 2 more powerlines for the 135s the sound sounded deeper and a little darker. The powerlines for the 135s go straight into the mains wall plugs, which is on a dedicated circuit. Everything else goes on the block, again with the dedicated circuit apart from my Lingo 1 which is on a powerline lite into the mains socket.

The powerlines offer a subtle uplift. I am considering putting another on the Supercap 2. Small incremental improvements.

The 2 powerlines on the 135s was more noticeable than the powerline on the block (wireworld matrix 2).

I would consider changing my block but for now I am leaving it. Next stage is to service 52, Supercap 2 and XPS2 for CDS2.

You can go on and on with these upgrades. For now this is very very good.

Hi Dan,
I am very sorry, that I am not fully up to date in your thread.
But here to say - you have done everything VERY well. Service of both 52 and SC will be a BIG jump!
I am so happy to hear that you have bought a 52 - good choice!

And thanks for your impressions on Powerline - darker again will be not good… maybe I will keep it as it is.
Phoenix Net darkened a good amount which is fine, but enough

How is the Powerline uplift on the Supercap?

It’s on the block. I have 3 powerlines, one on block and 2 on 135s. I have yet to try one on Supercap 2.

I am considering one on Supercap 2 and potentially on 555PS.

I have Chord purple cables on Supercap 2 and XPS2 and an HB Labs incredibly thick cable with Furutech Plug and IEC on 555PS.

Tbh, it all sounds really good and have ended up with a couple of powerline lites spare.

The 135s now sound darker, meatier, more bass and a bit clearer. Sounds very good indeed.

Was a noticeable lift, but definitely a tad darker. For me, I am happy with the sound. They had powerline lites before which are very good.

I don’t know if powerlines are overkill on 135s. It’s a tricky one as they were designed with MK or Crabtree standard leads.

Understood - there is no cable on the block. :grinning:
Powerline on block!
We had in Germany a musicline block with powerline cable. Maybe I will get it some day.
Bass is fine now here - wow, from my mouth.

Sound is really special:

  • non hifi like
  • deep stage
  • rough and raw some sometimes
  • tiny edgy character (that vodka I think)
  • not overly fast and totally flowing
  • tiny laid back in HF (comes with lps switch) - but much better than ee8 with lps.

No opera house but club full of smoke :joy:

My super hdx can also use a powerline…

Now playing
Annie di Franco - nicotine …

That’s the Olive sound all over. My 135s are CB and are serviced. They are good amps. My system is a mix of CB, Olive and Classic.

A 552DR and 500DR will bring you quite a bit more. But it’s a different more modern sound.

I would like the above but funds prevent that from happening. The 52 and Supercap with 2 x 135s give very good amplification.

Are you going to stick with the Olive kit? Or are you thinking 552 DR and 500DR at some point.

Many on hear say the improvement is well worth it.

Having listened to a full 500 system it does sound better overall.

I also sold my Superline, prefer Prefix/SC for the same reason as you.

I have my two powerlines on my Supercap 2 and 555DR.

I will swap them over with the 135s and see if that is better.

Prefix supercap here as well - thanks a lot. I am not insane after all.

Thought about 500 system a lot, but as I rejected superline and melco in order to keep the olive sound. … I think there is only minor chance … but one never know.

But … source first ?

Supercap 2 benefits everything. 555PS makes sense source first. I think your choice is excellent.

I have excellent cabling on all power supplies and amps. But powerlines are specifically designed for Naim equipment.

Be interested to see what you think @anon77199223 with them on 135s.

From info on this forum I decided to plug the 135s direct to the mains rather than the block.

I am interested in an improved block such as Musicworks Lite or G3, never seen a G4 available, Chord M6.

But is £2000 really worth it on a block unless you have full 500 system? Money could be saved towards a non DR 500.

Powerlines are very good.

Is a Chord M6 a box upgrade? Would Supercap DR be better or 300DR better than 2 x 135s?

Keep your 135… only 500 (best dr) will be a big step up.
No experience with m6 here - could be worth trying!

I have never given a thought on powerigel plus.

Keep it as it is if you are happy with it. You have a great system.

System upgrades have worked out well for me each time.

But when I look back I had a great system with an 82 2 HiCaps and 250CB.

Temptation and wanting something more can consume us. Upgrades when cash is available make things better and give a feelgood factor.

But if system sounds amazing its a case of knowing when to stop or have a break and enjoy the system as it is.
