Will demo second PS…
Will this also get towards the sweet spot ? Will see
@Darkebear
And again the bass gate will be in my head. Now it is perfectly with bass. Less defined as with melco, but darker and with more weight. Do you (or others) have any experience if adding second ps brings more definition in bass (plus less weight)?
Reading the big thread @Richieroo … can you say something on change of bass tunes (wheight especially)
Better definition and extension - more good bass.
Not less weight - but more power in the lower harmonics correctly rendered.
General clarity and a more stable sound-stage is what I found; just more confident with everything in its right place.
With Speakers with good bass-extension going back to one supply was like the players had lost their stage and were swaying around in a net by comparison. Without the comparison it is fine with one PS but once - in the right system - you hear what the other supply allows then it is obviously to me better.
I auditioned the ND555 with one supply after I had tried the NDS and although it was better I was a little disappointed that it was ‘nice’ with good detail it didn’t really grab me. Then add two 555PS and it was a transformed beast - and I knew I wanted it. For that money I have to get an obvious ‘want it’ urge so the two PS did it for me.
But with small speakers that do not render the deeper bass it may be less obvious in the bass - but I think the general timing and portrayal of space and stillness between events and notes is better done with two supplies - just better temporal resolution.
I would add to everything @Darkebear has mentioned. The must have was everything just sounded more natural and fell into place…….but at a price, as ever.
Thanks a lot - you are so helpful
To explain, why I am freaking out again.
The PN brought so much bass, that my SBL is bringing this bottom end very weighty for the first time.
Sweet spot…
And as far as I remember from the very much upgrades. New psu (e.g. supercap) brings a more tuneful bass, but also a leaner presentation.
SBL are not the deepest bass experts.
Melco also made a more defined bass - but less dominant and involving
And I do not want to get lost in my comparison neurotics…
But that’s up to me - only me
I was thinking how many time you would resist after having cancelled the last Melco.
I have never read someone regretting buying the second ps for the Nd555.
Could get one (1 year old and burnt in) - with return window - why not give it a try.
Why…
Because a felt some kind of relief after stressing myself trying to love the melco. This speaks against another ride …
But with PN it was a revelation…
For me bass weight and texture was transformative…so well worth the extra supply…albeit it is expensive…but not something I have ever regretted. Hope my comment clears things up…
The bass is much clearer and tunefull and goes down deeper. What you loose is where notes can blur into one. The effect is much tighter…more defined and tunefull giving more punch especially the lower you go. The overall impression in my system is a perception of more bass.
Trouble is it’s an addiction that will probably get the better of you - rack space or not!
All I can say about my ND555 with two supplies is that it’s blown my CDP555 with one supply completely out of the water. I’m getting lots of complaints from the wife of listening to music until 2am in the morning. Once you start you can’t stop. Finished last nights session with Pink. Floyd’s ‘Meddle’. Such a wealth of background detail that I’ve never heard before. I’m loving the way the system seems to build tension into a performance. It’s like it puts you on the edge of your seat while it all builds and then it just goes bonkers. Magnificent!
?? I had two for a short time but returned one to the original owner as there was a fault in the volume pot. Got mine repaired (one channel was dead) and serviced, which was huge update!
