@anon77199223
Have you tried The powerlines on the 135?
Does it Sound darker as in dans System?
No, I haven’t got round to that yet.
Thanks for the reminder.
I’ll try and carve out some time to do it over the next week.
Thing to bear in mind is that I will have to take them off the dac and preamp power supplies to do that, so there will be the effect of four changed cables at the same time.
THX
I let the Igel pass by… It was a good offer, but I like the sound as it is and do not want to go the testing burn-out route again
Have Powerline on 555PSDR and PN.
Olive amplification is fed by the standard Igel with naim standard cables.
Also Powerline on Nait 50 and Qute 2
I have a powerline on my Innuos zennith but not my PN @Dunc - did you find a Powerline on the PN worth while?
Gary
Yes - PN is very good with powerline
Thanks drago, a consideration for the future as I do t have a spare one and suspect prob best to keep the one I have on the zennith.
Gary
Very welcome.
As usual with powerline it gave more energy and strength in the mids with a bit more weight in bass.
Would use a powerline on hdx as well, but cabling is not possible.
One of the main reasons I passed the Igel is, that I have no energy left for cable dressing again … too much boxes.
And … powerline was made in (and for) black boxes era. Think it is best match here.
On nait 50 is was huge.
I have made some re-ripping …
Melco d100 with Audioquest cinnamon usb cable to my macbook.
Dbpoweramp software on Mac.
Files copied to hdx afterwards …
Compared to the hdx own rip it has a bit more depth and is slightly warmer sounding. Overall a bit better.
Is this one of my „out of mind-situations“.
Only found comparisons here with d100 to melco server vs core or others.
By the way … is it possible to add the melco via usb to the hdx to rip cds from melco? Don’t think it will work
Just moved the Powerlines to the 135s.
Swopped for 2 heads of my 4-headed Graham’s hydra.
It does sound different, in an intriguing way.
It’s hard to describe the difference, and I should leave it to run for a while before deciding whether to keep it that way or not.
Basically, it sounds like the speakers have tightened up, like the monoblocs have got a better hold on them.
But I’ve lost a bit of front end power and clarity.
(But then that description must be partly led by my knowledge of what the likely effects of the change might be).
I owned a Musicline PowerIgel - the standard one, not the one made using Powerlines.
It was a swine for cable dressing because of the nearly 2 meter cable from the wall plug to the unit - and the six nearly 2 meter-long cables to the components - basically cables sprouting out everywhere!
And it sounded fuzzy compared to a Graham’s Hydra.
So it had to go.
Meanwhile, the new cable pattern with the Powerlines on my 135s sounds great - I’m not planning to change this back any time soon!
@Dan_M this last point may interest you too.
I’m running powerlines on 135s direct to socket and one on wireworld matrix 2 power block into mains socket. And then poweline on Supercap 2 to block.
It sounds fantastic and an improvement on powerline lites. Richer, darker, weightier somehow. The sound has more substance.
Using Chord purple cables on 555PS and XPS2.
Not planning on buying anymore powerlines. May change the block at some point.
My 135s are powered by the duplex socket on my Belden dedicated radial.
The Hydra is powered by the single Furutech socket on my Lapp dedicated radial.
The Powerigel (standard one) is fine for me. But I have no comparison.
The Igel plus is gone and … no problem.
I am really trying to have fun as it is now
Currently I am in re-ripping mode.
Re-rips from melco d100 sound a bit more “analogue” … The difference is similar to records flattened with my AFI flat.
I know exactly what sound difference you describe…
Black Burndy also brought it compared to grey one.
Do you have a black Burndy with your 52?
Powerline has the same effect - very prominent with PN. But now … sweet spot … darker is fine, as with it there is more room, but a bit less transparency… to my ears. But I like it darker
Still one option to test.
Running lavender from nd555 to 52. hi line and Morgana unused in its boxes
What system are you running tight now @drago ?
I have hiline on NDS which is away for screen replacement.
Provides me with an opportunity to really use my CDS2 now with 555PS. Normally I use XPS2 and 555PS with NDS. Swapped them over and I like the changes! Knew I would.
When I had CDS3 I experimented with my 555PS but as NDS is main source it generally stays with that.
I like the synergy of CDS with XPS or XPS2. But the 555PS makes it sound like its on steroids.
Good to check things out. Especially while NDS is on holiday!
@Dan_M
Still on my multi-box system.
Nd555 with one ps. Had the opportunity for a second one, but i feared that with second one there comes more power and air a bit less togetherness… so I let it pass.
52 (fresh recapped last summer) black Burndy - supercap (olive). 2x135 recapped at class a in 2020…. SBL mk1… (owned from nearly new 1990)
I know there could be speaker update - but they are so good. I can hear every tiny difference with them. Wonderful!
Phoenix net and vodka cable to streamer
Had the opportunity for a perfect cds2 but no space left in. Fraim
I also have a phonosophie no3 with prefix on supercap and naim ps for the TT (l8ke Armageddon for lp12). I would get confused when a third source came up. But cds2 … too bad - it’s gone.
The CDS2 with 555PS sounds absolutely awesome. I am enjoying this so much!
Nd555 with 555ps does los sound awesome
What is the difference to nds sound?
@Dan_M
You must try the phoenix net. I promise, that you will love it !
Do you have a black Burndy for 52?
I am a bit sceptical (with no real reason) on focal speakers, but your grey ones are soooo nice. Have seen them (unplugged) at my dealer - wow! That’s one of the nicest finish I have seen. Good choice - have mentioned this already ;o)
Yes It’s a black burndy on 52.
It’s early days but CDS2 sounds closer to NDS with 555PS than with XPS2. Big change up.
NDS has clearer presenatation though. And it should do making use of 2 burndys and being more modern.
But CDS2 and CDS3 are very special machines and are not far off the NDS in sound quality.
When internet is down out cones the CDS2. It’s very composed and has character. It sounds very beautiful with 555PS listening to Pink Floyd Divison Bell.
I think there will be a time when I regret letting the cds2 pass.
It was a late one with a spare cd transport.
But a cdx 1 is still in my spare cupboard
With recapped XPs it is a rockstar
Listening to morcheeba right now
I have no top shelf left…
Cds2 as top loader needs a place on top.
Have nd555, TT and hdx on top. Hdx because he is a hottie
