ND555 at Olive System

Dan, as ever you hit the point :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You have a wonderful system with the ND555 and the Olive amps. What more could you want. Are you streaming or using HDX mainly?

I use the hdx as server only - ripping is mostly done via melco d100 and dbpoweramp
I mainly use the hdx - mainly streaming locally. Quobuz is fine but too much music is confusing me.

By the way … our system are a bit similar in the middle … 52/135 (your 135 being CB). And digital source wise also a bit similar … :+1:

What speakers are you using?

Our systems are very similar. I am really enjoying streaming now with the ND5XS2 as streaming transport and using NDS as DAC. It’s not as good as an ND555 but is more reliable with using NAS and streaming apps.

Is your system complete or are you tinkering?

Hi…
I did not want to start one of this long discussions…

I live my system … but with latest update (zenith mk3) there is a lot openess and only sometimes some slight roughness.
Thinking about changing my vodka cable (nd555 - PN).
But what I like most is the bigger bass of vodka - the upfront music I like also much.

What cable can I try - having these tendencies and being a bit smoother?

I already have the belden catsnake in my cart of designacable.

Others?

  • AQ diamond (less bass …?)
  • QED reference
  • Sotm cat 7
  • entreq

No general discussion please … only recommendation :grinning:

Have received belden catsnake (1,5 and 3m) - tested it against vodka.
Belden is very good and refined, but I really like the punch from vodka and it’s resolution.
Belden plugs are also not sitting as tight as vodka ones.
Will try 3m catsnake soon against cinnamon (zenith mk3 to phoenix net)

Is a tight Ethernet plug better than a loose one?

The Catsnake needs a good 60 hours run in before it reveals what it can do. I had a lot of love for C-stream and found the change to Catsnake quite hard. However, if I go back to C-Stream now I find it quite ragged and two dimensional. Just give the Catsnake time!

Now with kudos 606 I will try to put in the ee8.
Bass is enough now and maybe the faster switch … but room and refinement from phoenix .
Will hav an ear on it at the weekend

Hi, I am a bad guy - the thread is still alive. Hope this is fine.
As now 552 sits in the rack, a new possibility came up.
Interconnect between nd555 and 552. with 52 I had the 3rd leg problem.

I tested Morgana (bought one s9me time ago). But I liked the lavender more for its involvement - same point as @Blackbird

Chord Sarum super array are also available on the market.
My hiline has a bad plug and is a bit too short for the current setup.
Superlumina with 1,5m can be an option- but is expensive

I enjoyed Sarum Super Aray DIN - DIN when I had it. For its price a very good interconnect. Some seem to say to stay away from Tuned aray though. Sarum T is an extreme cable. Nothing middle of the road there. But it also IMO push you into the corner where some music sounds extremely good and some music totally off. I found myself being forced to listen to certain recordings with it. Too revealing? Maybe a system can be that.

Super Lumina has been my overall favourite. Wonderful cable IMO.

Thanks
So I look for a super lumina.
Good that it is 1,5m instead of 1,25m - this will work.

Good choice. I’ve played around with other cables and appreciate their varying qualities. As you say Lavender is still a great baseline but a little energetic. Hiline (when working properly) keeps the Lavender’s sense of timing and adds a bit of finesse and depth. I’ve tried some of the Chord cables and for me they just over-egg everything. However, I think that Superlumina comes with a level of naturalness and realism that other cables just seem to miss. I’ve certainly not yet heard anything better.

Where is the ‘enable wifi’ option in the Naim app?

Don’t know that specific streamer but on mine I set it via the system menu.

I don’t think there’s. But putting the antennas enables the Wifi. Normally.

You will need to disconnect the Ethernet cable first.

Yes, it appears logical .
