ND555 at Olive System

Hi Guys,
again a bit los
Bought the EE8 switch which will arrive today.
Also ordered this one
“Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series C2960-8TC-L V02 Fast Ethernet LAN Base Switch 8 Port” → the blue one
Can I use this as first switch?
I have a good offer for this one:
" CISCO Catalyst 2960 C Switch WS C2960C 8PC PoE" → white one as new. Does POE do any harm?
Can I use the white one as well… I am totally lost…
Maybe someone can help, like @frenchrooster - ThanksSOOO much!

You can use both, but why do you need both? Normally the EE8 is just what you need.
If I were you I would first set up the EE8 alone, let it play around 100 hours and appreciate the music. Then you can plug one of the Cisco, the blue one or white one, they are quite identical ( I have had the two….) and see if the sound improved for you or not.

Good advice - plenty of time to experiment. I did find it beneficial to keep the 2960 upstream when I had the EE8 but mileage, as with all these things, may vary.

Ee8 arrived so did the nd555
Will give First Feedback tomorrow…
There is a difference…

Teaser …

Had some Moments of hesitation … wine helps

Just a Bit More teasing…
Must be aware of the „nait effect“ nd5xs2 ndac xps is a lot smoother with much less details… nice, But…

Lets beginn with the few hiccups… (which I have very much like to have avoided)

  1. The metal feet are a tiny bit rocking. tried 3 different glass shelfs of fraim - all the same. Back right foot has a tine space. Its exactly a tiny sheet of paper, which is the foot short. Have put a paper underneath - does not look good and think it is not meant to be this way.
Think I have to bring it to naim.
What will they doP? Ort can I do anything.

  2. The motion sensor on the remote is not working - no way to bing him to work. Know the App option - ne result - even with new batteries and APP/ND555 reset.
    Think it should be replaced…

Tomorrow better news…

Naim used to provide very thin metal shims to level the feet of 500 series boxes. Maybe worth asking them if they are still available.

They will be available - must be. Read it last night here (after posting) and as all metal feet gear is affected, there must be a need for these shims.
Found a good post from Richard , mentioning, that the “metal feeter” are leveled at the factory, but as even glas is not even - there is a need for this shims @Richard.Dane : did naim still support the shims for leveling the metal feet gear? if you know spontanously - will call my dealer/naim on Monday.

And - can I do this myself. I I think I trust myself in doing it - but also think naim will do it.

As for th remote - is there a need of bluetooth or chromecast connection, when setting the tickbox in the app for the motion sensor?
I can not hear a ball inside the remote - like my r-com. But think it is more modern inside signee - like inside a smartphone. Definitely not working … :o/

You clearly go for a 3d setup having a fraim in front of another.

LOL - it is for testing only. Last year … remember ? I also quit the idea with third 52

Yes, as there’s no tolerance with the alloy feet Naim use the wafer thin alloy shims to level them all square on a special perfectly flat alloy plate. Of course, most supposedly flat surfaces actually aren’t as flat as that alloy plate - even glass - so sometimes the dealer will need to adjust or add/subtract shims when installing the kit to ensure there is absolutely no rocking at all. If you’re doing the install yourself then it’s relatively easy to play around with the wafer shims. Best ask your dealer to supply some for you.

Tanks a lot - I do understand very much how difficult it must be to arrange 4 metal feet to be non rocking by default ! Will go for shims

Naim will set it up to be absolutely level on a perfectly flat alloy plate, but on anything else, particularly if the surface is hard, the shims may well be needed to ensure the feet sit absolutely square.

Are you talking about the Nd555 remote? If yes I call @NigelB for help.
Do the Naim app work? Did you enabled system automation between the Nd555 and your pre? However as you have a 52, not sure it will work.
You don’t need Bluetooth or Chromcast I think.

No automation as I have a 52.
Do not know how app/nd555 communicates with the remote - some have to tell the remote to be sensitive to shaking

Sorry - I have written a bit badly (long listening session tonight). I meant, that if rain sets it up on a validated flat surface - nearly none of us do have such validated flat environment

Reichend, for the moment (today) I think it is better with a tiny paper under one feet, I think. Think paper is better than rocking ND555 case - do you agree?

Long story on the sound is coming today - promise

Have sold the ND555 but never felt the need for shims using Faim.

I enabled system automation using 252 and 552 but eventually disabled it as I suspected it had a marginal impact on SQ. Not sure if SA works with a 52.

I’ve not tried paper so couldn’t say.

SA does NOT work with 52 - is that the reason, that the motion sensor is dead?
Tested 3 different shelfs of fraim glass - mine is rocking a tiny bit. But if I can adjust it - ALL is perfectly fine

Personally I use the remote only for volume. And only app for the other tasks when streaming. Can’t help you for the remote. Sorry.
